Father John Misty Drops “God’s Trash” in Humorous Response To Kendrick Lamar Surprise Dropping ‘GNX’ on The Same Day as His Album

As a long-time music enthusiast and avid follower of both Father John Misty and Kendrick Lamar, I find their ongoing saga of album release day clashes to be nothing short of amusing and intriguing. I’ve been there since their early days, witnessing their growth as artists and the evolution of their unique styles.

On Instagram, Father John Misty shared his latest song titled “God’s Trash,” coming out on the same day as Kendrick Lamar unexpectedly released his project GNX, coinciding with the launch of his album Mahashmashana.

Initially, the track was made available on Bandcamp this October, but now it’s being widely distributed as a kind of retort by FJM to Dot for interfering with his album release day back in October with the album GNX. Over the last 12 years, they have coincidentally released albums on the same day five times – first in 2012, then in 2015, 2017, and for the Black Panther soundtrack in 2018, followed by their most recent joint release, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, in 2022.

FJM addressed the coincidence on X, completely forgetting that the Black Panther soundtrack was done by Dot. He takes the whole situation lightly, however, and fans even got a new release from it. Listeners also took to his Instagram to join in, writing comments like “the heart part 7,” “those some big steppers” and even tagging Lamar to tell him that he has 24 hours to respond.
