Actor Edi Gathegi, known for portraying Michael Holt/Mister Terrific in the DCU film Superman, expressed during a recent interview that the post-credits scene hinted at a possible future for his character within the franchise. It’s worth noting that Gathegi has previously played a superhero role, as Armando Munoz/Darwin in X-Men: First Class. However, despite Darwin having the ability to adapt and survive anything in the comics, he met his end in the movie.
Edi Gathegi on how Superman post-credits scene teases his future in DCU
In a chat with Variety, Gathegi mused over how the Superman post-credits sequence seemed like a “commitment” regarding his potential role within the DC Universe, contrasting sharply with his limited stint in the X-Men movie franchise.
When asked about how the final scene during the credits was put together, Gathegi explained that it had originally been part of the film itself. He wasn’t involved in the decision-making process, but he finds it thrilling because it represents a promise. Whether this is a commitment DC plans to fulfill or not, having that climactic moment at the very end of the movie feels like a significant conclusion for him personally, since his character was killed before the big battle in X-Men: First Class, only to become the last one standing.
After the thrilling finale of the latest Superman film, I found myself in the post-credits scene working side by side with Mister Terrific, played by David Corenswet’s Superman, fixing up the devastated buildings of Metropolis. When I pointed out that two parts of a recently repaired structure seemed to be mismatched, it grated on Terrific’s nerves and he stomped off in frustration. This incident made me acknowledge that, yes, sometimes I can be a real pain in the neck.
During the interview, Gathegi shared that he discovered the post-credits scene on the day of the movie’s release through a message from James Gunn, who directed Superman and co-heads DC Universe. Moreover, the actor of For All Mankind admitted that while he had agreed to a multi-project deal with DC Studios, he was not well-informed about the details.
Superman is currently in theaters.
