In the debut of “Needed Conversations” titled “Rumer Willis Opens Up About Parenting Choices and the Struggles Faced by Mothers,” we have our second episode. The objective behind this new series is to intertwine genuine, personal accounts with professional advice from a variety of guests: parents, healthcare experts, and influential figures in the field.

In this 55-minute talk, I open up frankly about the constant criticism mothers often encounter daily. “When you become a parent,” I express, “it seems like everyone is eager to criticize or offer unsolicited advice.” The judgment and chatter can be deafening, almost too much to bear, but there’s also an immense beauty and strength in being truthful about it all.

Apart from her other discussions, Willis mentions a type of therapy she’s incorporating into her personal life: Internal Family Systems (IFS), often referred to as “parts work.” This therapeutic method is fundamental to its approach. For a more detailed understanding, the book “No Bad Parts” by Richard Schwartz is highly recommended. He’s a leading figure in this field and developed IFS therapy back in the ’80s.

Willis mentions that, in caring for Louetta, she’s simultaneously worked on self-reparenting, nurturing herself as a mother, and being present for herself through the use of Internal Family Systems therapy.
