The untitled Deathstroke & Bane movie just received a massive update.
The prospective DC Universe film was initially hinted at being in production as far back as September 2024. Matthew Orton, who previously penned Captain America: Brave New World and Moon Knight, was enlisted to pen the script, focusing on a collaboration between two Batman antagonists. Now, ten months down the line, it’s time for DC Studios joint-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran to assess Orton’s written work.
What is the latest update on the Deathstroke and Bane movie?
Umberto Gonzalez, a reporter from TheWrap, shared on The Box Office Podcast (via some source X) that Orton has handed over his script for the Deathstroke and Bane film to Gunn and Safran. Previously, Gunn has emphasized that no DC movie will start production unless they are completely content with the screenplay. If Orton’s script meets their standards, there’s a high possibility that the Deathstroke and Bane film could be one of the upcoming DC Universe movies to go into production.
Among three DC Universe movies underway, two are centered around the Batman lore, with Deathstroke & Bane and Clayface being part of this grouping. As for the progress, Clayface is leading the way as it has a director (James Watkins), an assigned lead actor (Tom Rhys Harries), a scheduled production start date in August 2025, and a release date set for September 11, 2026.
The story of “The Brave and the Bold” differs from what was initially expected. Although it was one of the first ten titles unveiled by DCU, details about its production have remained elusive since then. Only the news that Andy Muschietti will direct the film has been confirmed by DC Studios. As for the script, Gunn mentioned that a screenwriter is secretly working on it. The upcoming movie will reveal Batman discovering that he has a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul.
Without significant new developments on The Brave and the Bold, some DC enthusiasts are now pondering if the Caped Crusader might make his live-action debut, possibly in either Clayface or Deathstroke & Bane. Recent plot revelations for Clayface have clarified that Batman won’t feature in the R-rated horror film; however, there’s still a possibility he could show up in Deathstroke & Bane, given that details about this project are largely kept secret.
Before audiences get additional details about the forthcoming DC Universe films, the next verified live-action manifestation of Batman will occur in the Elseworlds film, “The Batman Part II,” slated for release in cinemas on October 1, 2027.
