10 New Lifestyle Sneakers Defining 2025

As we move past the midpoint of the year, our curiosity is piqued – which innovative sneaker designs are shaping conversations and ultimately characterizing 2025 as a standout year for footwear?

This year has seen an abundance of well-known shoe styles. From numerous launches of Air Jordan 1 anniversary editions to countless adidas Gazelles, while these timeless classics are welcome, it’s the new designs that keep things exciting. For our most recent overview of the sneaker industry, we’ve gathered a list of 10 lifestyle sneakers that have recently debuted this year and are generating buzz.

New Balance 204L

Sports brands like New Balance sometimes use a strategy called “pre-heating” a product before it becomes widely available. This usually involves high-profile partnerships and limited releases that create anticipation for a shoe prior to releasing numerous versions of it. For instance, the expensive “super light” deconstructed versions of the 530, in collaboration with Miu Miu, have been out of reach for budget-conscious consumers for years. However, the 204L model is attracting attention from those with a smaller budget because it shares the same slim style (although without the luxury label and its high price). Its design is influenced by retro runners and borrows elements from Miu Miu’s designs, such as a suede upper in light brown. To further excite potential buyers, New Balance has already announced collaborations with Kith, AURALEE, and Basketcase involving the 204L model ahead of its global launch.

HOKA Speed Loafer

When Junya Watanabe presented the New Balance 1906L, the idea of a sneaker loafer sparked diverse opinions. Every month we witness numerous fleeting trends, but this one still stirs excitement (or frustration) among sneaker enthusiasts as more designs like HOKA’s Speed Loafer emerge. This specific take on the trend features a robust, oversized Vibram sole coupled with a traditional loafer upper. Much like its controversial peers, getting a pair isn’t straightforward, and its initial all-black design often sells for several times its original price in second-hand markets.

Nike Air Max Phenomena

Absolutely, even a popular trend isn’t immune to Nike’s dominance, as they’ve entered the sneaker loafer market. Collaborating with the Serena Williams Design Team, the Air Max Phenomena was created. Nike constructed the shoe using the Air Max Sunder’s foundation and mudguard, combining it with a loafer-style upper made from textured leather. Although it leans more towards a sneaker in style, it still retains elements of a loafer such as a reflective mudguard, minimal branding on the strap and heel tab, and a visible Air unit. The shoe was released this month, with only two colorways available so far. However, given the strong sales of its lead all-black version, it’s likely that more versions will follow.

Pharrell x adidas Jellyfish

During Paris Fashion Week, Adidas unveiled a fresh and captivating sneaker design in collaboration with Pharrell, which added to the thrilling footwear previews and high-energy ready-to-wear shows. Although Pharrell’s focus has moved from adidas to other projects, such as his position as creative director for Louis Vuitton menswear, the influence of his design sensibilities remains strong. He returned to adidas to create the Jellyfish sneaker, which is a modern take on the Adistar Cushion, with larger dimensions due to oversized overlays. The shoe boasts intricate linework and premium synthetic materials, giving it a futuristic aesthetic that aligns with a new brand identity inspired by Virginia, Pharrell’s home state. Although an adidas x Louis Vuitton collaboration might not occur, showcasing new colorways of the Jellyfish sneaker at the end of his runway shows could be an exciting alternative.

New Balance ABZORB 2000

Thinking about New Balance’s lifestyle footwear, the classic image that pops up is that of vintage running shoes made from a blend of materials. Whether it’s the iconic 990v4 or the stylish 1000 sneaker from 1999, New Balance has solidified its reputation as a preferred choice for such designs. However, the brand has ventured into new territory with the launch of the ABZORB 2000. This shoe sports a modern look, with rippling accents on the sleek upper that subtly display an “N” logo on the side only from the midfoot region. What truly distinguishes the shoe is its sole unit, which employs a five-pod ABZORB cushioning system. This attention-grabbing feature marks a departure from the brand’s traditional aesthetics, instead adopting a more contemporary style that is frequently seen among its peers in the industry.

PUMA Speedcat Ballet

In recent times, heavy footwear might have dominated for a while, but sleek sneakers are experiencing a resurgence. Recognizing this trend, PUMA has supported various slim designs this year, one of them being the revamped Speedcat Ballet version of their racing shoe, the Speedcat. The Speedcat returned last year and is now more graceful than ever before. Its elegant structure preserves the lateral Formstrip while subtly incorporating an elastic band system on the forefoot. With endorsement from Dua Lipa and a budget-friendly price of $80 USD, it’s no surprise that this shoe has gained widespread popularity.

ASICS GEL-QUANTUM 360 I AMP

ASICS acknowledges Kiko Kostadinov as a trailblazer for revitalizing the brand’s significance, but he’s not the sole contributor to ASICS’ soaring popularity. The trendsetters at JJJJound have been instrumental in boosting sales through their innovative color combinations. Not just their collaborations are selling swiftly, but they’re also inspiring similar designs. Impressed by this success, ASICS granted JJJJound the first chance to present its latest model, the GEL-QUANTUM 360 I AMP. This sneaker, designed to celebrate the GEL-QUANTUM franchise’s 10th anniversary and its 360-degree GEL technology in the midsole, fits seamlessly with JJJJound’s understated image. Although the sneaker is still widely available, even in its collaborative white version, it plays a crucial role in steering the brand towards a new era, moving away from its traditional looks.

New Balance 1890

Last year, New Balance stirred up some excitement with their unconventional design in the 1906L, and they’ve proven they aren’t shy about pushing boundaries even more. During Paris Fashion Week last month, the brand hinted at another unique sneaker – the New Balance 1890. This upcoming model features a recognizable black sole with an ABZORB base, paired with an upper that resembles the shape of Clarks Wallabee and is colored butter yellow. The interesting combination of these elements makes it quite eye-catching. Additionally, the sneaker showcases snakeskin-inspired overlays for added contrast, making it stand out even more. Although we know least about this model on the list, it’s only a matter of time before it takes center stage.

Nike Shox Z

As a dedicated gamer stepping into the latest sneaker drops of 2025, I can feel the anticipation building around Nike’s Shox franchise. With the launch of the Shox TL, Shox Ride 2, and Shox R4, we’ve witnessed multiple evolutions, but a true resurgence has yet to take place. Could the upcoming Nike Shox Z be the missing piece? This silhouette stands tall on the shoulders of decades of legacy, infused with a modern spin.

The design is reminiscent of kitten heels, providing a subtle boost from its compact Shox unit at the heel. A sculpted upper adds an element of luxury without overpowering the overall look. The lead black and red colorway harks back to Martine Rose’s iconic Shox MR4 that made waves in 2022. It’s still too early to declare it a triumph, but I can’t help but keep my eyes on this promising model as we move through the year.

adidas Megaride AG

There’s a growing trend towards hybrid sneakers with sleek profiles, but adidas is demonstrating that oversized sneakers continue to have relevance. The adidas Megaride AG is another substantial sneaker model set to make its mark in the sneaker market this year. This design carries on the revival of the Megaride line, showcasing the distinctive tunnels within the midsole that create a large cushioning structure. A mesh upper incorporates delicate line patterns, maintaining agility for the shoe despite its imposing presence. Adidas made sure to draw attention to this shoe during Paris Fashion Week last month by giving one of its notable collaborators, Willy Chavarria, the chance to highlight the sneaker’s boldness through eye-catching color schemes of blue and pink.
