Stephen Colbert is out at CBS, and his late-night peers may be next.
If the long-running hit show “The Late Show” struggles to keep its lights on, what hope is there for its competing programs?
It seems plausible that the reason given by CBS, a “financial decision,” is accurate in this situation. However, some conspiracy theorists might attribute Stephen Colbert’s departure to President Donald Trump. Yet, it remains unclear how such an influence would extend to the entire Hollywood industry, where Colbert faces criticism day and night without facing any apparent consequences or repercussions.
(Nor should there be, of course).
Reflecting on the past, Colbert leveraged his influential broadcast outlet to disseminate hatred, fuel division, and most damningly, false information. Regrettably, he popularized the term “clapter” while overlooking unsavory actions by Democrats.
He failed Satire 101.
These moments, though, capture Colbert at his very worst.
The Vax-Scene
Stephen Colbert’s advocacy for COVID-19 vaccines could be perceived as a proactive health move, but he chose not to entertain doubts about the science behind the inoculation. He dismissed concerns that it was not suitable for individuals aged 18 and under, as well as apprehensions about vaccine mandates from liberty advocates.
Instead, he performed an incredibly awkward dance routine that is still notorious on social media. This might just be his most embarrassing incident.
Peak Russian Collusion Hoax
In this rephrased version, the sentence becomes: During his monologue, Colbert pushed boundaries that were challenging for his media supporters. He fiercely criticized President Trump, implying a romantic relationship between them and Russia’s powerful leader, Vladimir Putin.
Colbert’s blunt speech reflected his background on “The Daily Show.” Jon Stewart, both former and incoming host, frequently used profanity, shaping the late-night scene. Essentially, Colbert followed in Stewart’s footsteps with similar language use.
The issue at hand? The Russian collusion tale turned out to be one of the largest deceits in recent historical times. Unfortunately, the CBS host succumbed to this deception, persistently advocated for it, and to this day, has not offered an apology.
Fake News, anyone?
Defending Dementia Biden
From his late-night platform, Colbert playfully teased President Joe Biden, often focusing on the president’s advanced years. He portrayed him as a bit grumpy, outdated in his speech, and fond of antiquated vocabulary.
It was not evident to Colbert that the country’s leader was experiencing severe mental deterioration. Despite a specialist like Robert Hur detailing Biden’s mental issues, Colbert continued to support the Democrats.
It turns out he’s not as forgetful as suggested in the summary,” Colbert commented, highlighting a part that reads, “…you seem to have a remarkable memory…”. In other words, it’s quite the opposite of what was reported. As a matter of fact, Colbert is now concerned about Mr. Hur’s mental acuity.
That segment has aged as badly as anything Colbert has done during his CBS reign.
Mocking Out-of-Work Americans
Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, along with other comedians, poked fun at business owners who criticized the lockdowns during the 2020 pandemic because they were witnessing their businesses disappearing right before their eyes.
Despite the hardships faced by ordinary Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as struggling to keep their businesses open and feed their families, this didn’t seem to concern Colbert. Instead, he continued receiving his substantial income checks.
The Colberts had all the resources they needed to ride out the lockdowns. Let them eat cake.
After more than a month of staying home, many of us are becoming a bit restless and unconventional, much like some individuals who were seen protesting against social distancing over the weekend. For example, a man in Washington State held up a sign saying ‘Give me liberty, or give me Covid-19.’ Friend, you’re surrounded by a large group, you’re not wearing a mask, and you’re close to people — it seems you might not have to make that choice.
It turned out that the lockdowns weren’t effective in curbing the virus’s transmission, instead inflicting more harm than benefits. Intuitively, some people were aware of this, yet Colbert held nothing but disdain for such insight.
Covering for Omar’s Vile 9/11 Comments
Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” is filmed in New York City, a location that tragically experienced the 9/11 attacks firsthand. In later times, he welcomed Representative Ilhan Omar onto his program just days after she made controversial remarks concerning the suicidal hijackers involved in those events.
The quote? “Some people did something.”
The host might have asked Omar more directly about those remarks: “Are you sorry for making them? Can you comprehend that many reasonable people found those views repugnant?
Instead, he ignored the subject and cozied up to a politician many deem antisemitic.
