In a show of solidarity, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, both past Supermen, expressed their backing for David Corenswet as he embarked on the iconic role in James Gunn’s latest adaptation of Superman. However, they were hesitant to provide him with specific guidance on approaching the part.
During the London premiere of a DC Studios movie, the actor shared in an interview with Heart that he had conversations with both Cavill and Hoechlin regarding their roles as Superman, but neither of these past Superman actors offered him any advice on portraying his character in the film.
I corresponded with Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, who have played Superman before me. Remarkably, they each expressed in their own words that they wouldn’t offer any guidance. I believe this is very fitting for Superman, as he isn’t about dispensing advice or telling others how to act.” (He said this via Beat 102 103)
Despite being hesitant to offer specific advice for playing Superman, both actors instead provided Corenswet with words of encouragement.
He shared with me a feeling of support and enjoyment, just like Superman might do. They were incredibly uplifting, and our conversation was genuinely delightful.
The actor from “Twister” expressed his eagerness, stating that he hasn’t had the chance to meet Cavill and Hoechlin personally as of yet. However, he looks forward to the day they can finally meet, as it will be wonderful when they can all gather in one room together.
Gunn’s movie “Superman” is set to premiere on July 11, marking Tyler Hoechlin’s debut as the legendary superhero. Previously, Henry Cavill played Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s 2013 film “Man of Steel”, as well as in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016) and “Justice League” (2017). Meanwhile, Hoechlin portrayed the character on the CW’s TV series “Superman & Lois” from 2021 to 2024.
When discussing his decision to cast Corenswet as Superman in his film, Gunn mentioned that he had an excellent chemistry reading with Rachel Brosnahan, who will portray Lois Lane. He clarified, “David [Corenswet] had better chemistry with Rachel [Brosnahan] due to her being a controlled actress, and David is slightly more free-spirited. This results in a unique energy on-screen.
