Idle Horizons Guide: 7 Tips to boost your battles

Idle Horizons seems like a standard auto battler, but it actually has a lot of strategic depth. Success depends on choosing the right heroes to upgrade and managing your Gems effectively, especially in the beginning.

After a lot of trial and error, I’ve put together seven key tips to help you get off to a great start.

First, be sure to check out our Idle Horizons tier list! It breaks down which heroes are strong and worth leveling up, and which ones you might want to skip.

Let’s get on with the Idle Horizons guide, then, shall we?

Tip #1 – Don’t skip those codes

It seems simple, but many new Idle Horizons players miss out on free rewards by forgetting to use codes! Once you reach stage 20 and the shop opens, go to the Store and scroll down to where you can enter codes. Just type them in, and you’ll get extra resources.

These codes give you free items, gems, and other perks to help you get ahead when you first start playing. It’s a good idea to check for new codes regularly, as the game creators often release them during special events or after updates. Redeem them quickly – you’ll be glad you did!

Tip #2 – Spend your Gems smartly

It’s tempting to use your Gems to get new summons, but that’s often a mistake for beginners. A better strategy is to invest in Auto Battle upgrades as quickly as possible. Each upgrade increases the number of scrolls you earn every hour, even when you’re not actively playing. You’ll start seeing bigger bonuses after 5 hours, and they’ll reach their peak around 8.5 hours. This means you’ll get a significant amount of rewards just for checking back in!

If you’re stuck or want to earn more while you’re away, you can invest resources into your factory to increase how long it keeps producing even when you’re not actively playing. Just make sure you’ve fully upgraded your Auto Battle feature first. It’s like creating a reliable source of income that builds up even when you’re doing something else.

Tip #3 – Always go for x100 summons

Okay, so as someone who plays a lot of idle RPGs, I gotta say, summoning is always the best part, right? But with this game, seriously, hold onto your stuff! It’s way better to save up and do the big x100 summon. Yeah, doing a few single pulls feels good at first, but you’ll end up spending all your resources super quickly and won’t get as much value as you would with a larger, guaranteed pull. Trust me on this one – patience really pays off!

Don’t waste your Gems on summoning heroes! You’ll get much more benefit by investing them in improving your Auto Battle or factory. Keep collecting your achievement rewards until you have 100 scrolls, and then do a pull. A little patience now will really pay off with a stronger team in the long run.

Tip #4 – Manage your Gold (it’s more precious than you think)

Gold is your biggest bottleneck – there’s just never enough of it.

Initially, focus on leveling up all your main heroes to about level 75. After you get to stage 200, you’ll unlock the Gold Factory, which automatically creates gold even when you’re not actively playing.

Focus on upgrading your Gold Factory as soon as possible. It might seem expensive, but it’s worth it because running out of gold will hold you back more than anything else. Think of gold as your main source of energy – you can’t really progress without it.

Tip #5 – Build a balanced team around Ignis

When you’re starting out, Ignis is your best bet. He’s free to use, levels up quickly, and can help you progress surprisingly far in the game. Give him any good equipment you find – a legendary staff, gloves, and sword are especially helpful – and focus on completing the campaign until you’ve earned enough resources to summon your first powerful unit.

When you’re first starting out, a good team setup is: a damage dealer like Ignis or Prince, a tank like Himmel or Bell, a healer like Druid, and then either another Ignis or Lumina if you get Lumina early. As you unlock stronger heroes, swap out Ignis for Lumina, Necro, or Rosie – whichever one you get first. Lumina is currently the best hero in the game, so if you pull her, prioritize building your team around her.

Tip #6 – Prioritise talents and equipment

As your team gets stronger, prioritize improving their talents and equipment. First, level up your tanks, Himmel and Bell, to 75 to unlock their talents. Then, focus on upgrading the legendary equipment for your primary damage dealer.

If you’re playing damage-dealing heroes like Lumina, Necro, or Rosie, it’s best to take the top path. It gives you a significant starting mana boost – 20 extra – which can really help during battles.

Prioritize getting the best staff, gloves, and overall gear for your main damage dealer. If you can only have one legendary item right away, choose the staff. Gradually add more legendary and purple-quality gear – aim for a legendary staff, legendary gloves, a purple staff, and then a purple bow or alternative bow. Don’t worry about getting perfect stats on your charms just yet; focus on equipping the correct charms first.

Tip #7 – Play the long game

This guide to Idle Horizons might seem overwhelming at first, but remember that it’s a game meant to be played over a long period of time. Let me clarify things a bit.

Charms can seem tricky when you first start, but here’s a simple guide: put Bloom charms on your tanks, Fury charms on your damage dealers, and Storm charms on Lumina – if you unlock her.

Don’t worry about minor stat bonuses at the beginning of the game. Focus on the main effect of each charm. Your first purchases should be two Blooms (for Himmel and Bell), one Fury (for Prince or Lumina), and one Lucidity (for Druid). Once you have those, it’s more cost-effective to buy the daily special ten times in a row.

After unlocking Siege Mode, you’ll begin collecting red gems to improve your character’s talents. Focus on leveling them in this order: Sentinel, then Conqueror, and finally Oracle. Sentinel makes your tank much tougher, Conqueror strengthens your primary damage dealer, and Oracle enhances your support abilities. Investing in these talents is key to long-term success, and neglecting them could mean your team won’t survive!
