As a seasoned gamer and fantasy enthusiast who has delved deep into the lore of Middle-earth, I must say that the unfolding tale of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been an exhilarating journey so far. The anticipation for Season 2 is palpable, and with Charlie Vickers’ Sauron set to take center stage, it promises to be a rollercoaster ride that I can hardly wait for.
Heed this notice: Plot twists from the first season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ are coming up. You can watch it now if you have an Amazon Prime subscription.
As the second season of “The Rings of Power” approaches in mere weeks, it’s high time for us, the fans, to brace ourselves for the fury of Charlie Vickers’ Sauron. Even before spectators were speculating who Sauron might be during the unveiling of Season 1, it seems that the cast of this Amazon series had similar suspicions while on set. When TopMob recently chatted with the Queen of Númenor, Tar-Míriel – otherwise known as Cynthia Addai-Robinson – the actress opened up about last season’s shocking revelation.
During Season 1 of “The Rings of Power,” Addai-Robinson collaborated extensively with Charlie Vickers, as their characters, Galadriel and an unspecified figure, found themselves in Númenor and eventually fought alongside her and the kingdom’s soldiers to protect the Southlands. In a recent conversation I had with Cynthia Addai-Robinson, she revealed that the plot twist regarding Halbrand being Sauron was kept under wraps on set. To quote her directly:
The last script for the Season 1 finale was redacted. We did not get all of the scenes and it was a closed set when they filmed his reveal. So only the inner inner circle would’ve known how those things played out. But for the rest of us, we all suspected, right? But it was pretty cool when it aired and seeing people’s reactions. And now, I’m happy for Charlie for the fact that he can now just own it and relax and just be the sexy Sauron he was destined to be.
As a long-time fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth saga, I must admit that I was initially taken aback by the portrayal of Sauron in Amazon Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. To be completely honest, I found myself expecting a heroic figure like Aragorn and instead found a character with a darker, more enigmatic edge.

After Halbrand’s startling true identity is unveiled to Galadriel, one of the showrunners has hinted that Sauron will play a significant role in guiding all events during Season 2. This notion is subtly suggested in the recently released Season 2 trailer. Addai-Robinson, who portrayed Vickers in Season 1 before his character could be publicly revealed as Sauron, shared some insights about the atmosphere on set.
As a gamer among the cast, we had our suspicions brewing even before the filming started, mainly because we were all getting acquainted outside of work during that time. When we landed in New Zealand, we found ourselves living in close proximity to each other, just a few miles or blocks apart. One day, I dropped by Charlie’s house and noticed some questionable items taped to his wall. He was quite secretive about it all, but we weren’t easily fooled. We figured out his little secret eventually.
Despite Vickers’ best efforts, the secret eventually came to light, leaving us eager to see how Sauron will handle the diverse characters in Season 2. As for Tar-Míriel, we know she will return to her homeland of Númenor after their defeat in the Southlands, taking on a controversial role as ruler. But will she cross paths with Sauron once more, uncovering his true identity?
On August 29, catch the debut episode of The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime. Until that date, enjoy watching Charlie Vickers discuss the recent unveiling in TopMob’s San Diego Comic-Con interview with the cast of The Rings of Power.
