Taylor Russell Exits Michael B. Jordan’s ‘Thomas Crown Affair’ Due to Creative Differences

Michael B. Jordan’s film adaptation of “The Thomas Crown Affair” continues to progress, even after the departure of its cast member, Taylor Russell.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s latest report, Russell is said to no longer be playing his role in “The Thomas Crown Affair” because of creative disagreements. As a result, the actress from “Bones and All” who was initially cast will have her part recast, as the film is currently being filmed in London.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over “The Thomas Crown Affair,” a modern reinterpretation of the iconic 1968 film, starring the legendary Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. In this new adaptation, directed by Jordan and featuring Jordan himself in the lead role, Drew Pearce, the creative mind behind “The Fall Guy” and “Hotel Artemis,” has crafted a fresh script, following an earlier draft penned by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson.

Initially, Russell was planned to act alongside Jordan in the cast of “The Thomas Crown Affair.” This ensemble also features Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart. The production team includes Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff. Alan Trustman, who wrote the original film, serves as an executive producer.

Next on Russell’s acting schedule, she is slated to feature in the Korean suspense movie “Hope” by Na Hong-jin, alongside Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Jung Ho-yeon. Moreover, she will share screen time with David Jonsson in an upcoming Frank Ocean production. Furthermore, Russell is discussing potential roles for a remake of “Single White Female” opposite Jenna Ortega, produced by 3000 Pictures.

The Thomas Crown Affair from Amazon MGM Studios will release in theaters on March 5, 2027.

Deadline was first to report the news of Russell’s exit.
