While The Last of Us season two may have sparked some disagreements among fans, it undeniably struck a chord with the Television Academy voters, as evidenced by its recent success.
On Tuesday morning, HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama received 16 Emmy nominations, which is less than its initial 24 nominations in the first season but still an impressive number.
As a devoted fan, I must express my delight over Pedro Pascal’s nomination for best actor. Though his portrayal of Joel received acclaim, it’s fascinating to note that he only appeared in three out of the seven episodes this season. This nod recalls Brian Cox’s recognition during the final season of HBO’s Succession, where his character met an untimely end in the third episode. Despite their limited screen time, both actors have managed to captivate viewers and secure well-deserved nominations.
I’m thrilled to share that the amazing Bella Ramsey has been nominated once again for Best Actress, thanks to her captivating performance as Ellie in the second season. Not only that, but our beloved series has also been recognized with a nomination for Best Drama! What an incredible achievement!
Various other acting contenders received Emmy nominations for the guest actor category: Joe Pantoliano for his role as Eugene, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, and Catherine O’Hara as Gail.
Besides being nominated for “Best Drama Series,” The Last of Us is also recognized in several other categories: Best Production Design, Casting, Picture Editing, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Supervision, Documentary (Short Form) for a behind-the-scenes documentary, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Special Visual Effects.
Among some criticized aspects are Isabela Merced’s portrayal as Gina, certain writing and directing categories, notably those recognizing Mark Mylod who directed the second season episode titled “Through the Valley,” which was chosen for four out of the nominated submissions.
