‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Renewed for Season 3 With New Showrunner

AMC is booking a third trip to Dead City.

The third season of the spin-off series “Dead City,” featuring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprising their roles from “The Walking Dead” as Negan and Maggie, has been acquired by the cable and streaming network. In this continuation, they struggle to survive and create a community in what remains of Manhattan following a zombie apocalypse.

In the upcoming season three, there will be a new showrunner as Seth Hoffman, an experienced figure within the franchise, steps in to replace Eli Jorné, who oversaw Dead City during its first two seasons. The production for season three is scheduled to commence in the autumn in Boston.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to express my gratitude to Eli Jorné for two captivating seasons of “Dead City” that skillfully navigated the stories of our beloved characters into uncharted territories, expanding this vibrant universe by unveiling a fresh corner of the walker apocalypse. With Dan McDermott, president of AMC Networks entertainment and AMC Studios, expressing delight, we’re eagerly anticipating a new season steered by veteran “Walking Dead” crew member Seth Hoffman. Alongside the talented Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, this upcoming season promises to introduce intriguing adversaries and alliances that will test the limits of Maggie and Negan’s complex relationship.

During the peak seasons four, five, and six of The Walking Dead, Hoffman served as both a writer and co-executive producer. In this role, he wrote ten episodes. Excited about the opportunity to revisit The Walking Dead universe, he shared, “I’m looking forward to immersing myself once more in this world and contributing to another season full of engaging tales for this renowned series.” He added, “It’s a privilege to map out the next chapter for Maggie and Negan’s legendary journey in Dead City. Working alongside Lauren, Jeffrey, and Scott [Gimple] is inspiring, and I’m eager to team up with them to bring this narrative to fruition.

In the third season, events unfold following the climax of the previous finale where Maggie decided to let go of her long-standing feud with Negan. AMC previews the upcoming season like this: “Maggie and Negan work towards reconciliation to establish a prosperous community in Manhattan post-apocalypse, but as unrest brews within the city, they must ponder whether their past hurts have truly been healed or if these old wounds will lead to disaster for the entire city.

In the upcoming season three, Hoffman will team up as an executive producer alongside the chief content officer of The Walking Dead franchise, Scott M. Gimple, along with Kevin Hooks (Morgan), Sarah Wayne Callies (Cohan), Brian Bockrath, and Colin Walsh.

Beyond his tenure in “The Walking Dead”, Hoffman has also delved into writing and producing roles for shows such as “Prison Break”, “House”, and Amazon’s “Tell Me Your Secrets”. He is represented by both CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
