Tracker Season 3’s Premiere Officially Makes History for Justin Hartley’s CBS Series

The third season of Tracker begins with a strong two-part episode that marks a turning point for the series. In the premiere, Justin Hartley’s character, Colter Shaw, is still grappling with the truth about his father’s death, revealed by a man named Otto Waldron (Alex Fernandez) who was present the night Ashton Shaw (Lee Tergesen) died. Colter shares with his brother, Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles), that Otto confessed to pushing Ashton off a cliff, leading to his death.

The latest episode finally reveals what happened to Ashton Shaw on the night of his death, and the explanation isn’t as dramatic as some might expect. It turns out Colter and Otto’s fathers were once friends, and Colter’s mother, Mary Dove Crewson, asked Waldron to check on her husband because she was concerned. This revelation about Shaw Sr. is just one of the many gripping events in the season 3 premiere of Tracker. In the main case of the week, Colter and Russell find themselves caught up in a dangerous kidnapping plot known as the Process.

Tracker Season 3’s Opening Is The Show’s First Two-Part Premiere

This week’s episode of Tracker, titled “The Process,” takes a different turn, placing the Shaw brothers in unexpected and serious danger. What makes this episode stand out is its cliffhanger ending – a first for the series. By splitting the story into two parts, the stakes are raised, and viewers are left wondering how Colter and Russell will escape the situation. Although the reason behind the trouble isn’t yet clear, it’s revealed that the brothers became involved by interfering with someone else’s plan.

The story begins when Cal Rogers hires Colter to find his missing daughter, Hailey, and ex-wife, Lisa. Cal seeks help from Colter after being directed to him by Reenie, who was concerned when Colter went silent for weeks. Russell persuades Colter to take the case, and after a personal conversation about their father, Colter’s brother offers to join the search, explaining he’s currently unemployed and has free time.

Colter made the right decision by initially staying out of the investigation. However, now that he’s involved, he’s determined to uncover the truth behind “the Process.” Although Russell was satisfied with finding Hailey and her mother and wanted to close the case, Colter pushed for a complete resolution, even after the Rodgers family was reunited. Just as Russell tries to convince Colter to drop it, the person in charge of the Process sends a threatening, self-deleting text message to both the Shaws: “YOU HAVE INTERRUPTED THE PROCESS AND THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES.” This message sets up the next stage of the investigation.

Tracker Only Has One “To Be Continued” Episode Before Season 3

The fact that Russell and Colter are forced to keep investigating is made even more dramatic by the cliffhanger ending, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. This is only the second time the show has used a “To be continued” ending; the first was during a Season 2 episode of Tracker before the holiday break, and the story concluded when the show returned. Previously, Tracker audiences had to wait for the rest of the story when Colter teamed up with retired cop Keaton (Brett Sexton) to investigate the death of Gina Picket.

As the first half of the season wrapped up, Colter received a call from Keaton with new information about Gina Picket’s murder, and Keaton requested a meeting with Shaw. In the final moments of Season 2, Episode 8 of Tracker, Colter finds Keaton at a warehouse, where a man named Alex Silva (Johnny Rey Diaz) is being held. Silva claims to know what happened the night Gina disappeared. The episode, titled “The Disciple,” ends with Silva telling Colter about a man known as Teacher who runs a place called the Farm, and Colter urgently asks Silva if Gina is still alive.

The show wrapped up the mystery surrounding Gina’s disappearance, revealing the existence of the Farm. Though Gina had passed away, Colter was able to give her sister, Camille, some peace after years of searching for answers. This storyline, which had been a long-standing unresolved case for Colter, received a satisfying conclusion. However, unlike previous investigations, Colter didn’t actively choose this new case, suggesting a darker and more challenging start to Season 3.

What To Expect From The Second Half Of Tracker Season 3’s Opener

With the entire season still to come, it seems Colter will make it through the challenges in “Leverage.” The latest preview shows Russell and Colter continuing to team up, marking the first time the brothers will work together for two episodes straight. The Shaw brothers will undoubtedly focus on uncovering who is behind the current plan, and their collaboration promises plenty of exciting scenes. Given Colter’s survival skills and Russell’s military and black-ops experience, their teamwork is always a highlight.

The latest preview doesn’t give away much about the upcoming storyline. However, photos from the episode show Colter and Russell reconnecting with tech expert Randy (Chris Lee) at a diner, bringing him back into action after he helped Shaw in Season 2. We’ll also see Reenie again, as she was the original client who brought Colter and Russell into the case. Given Russell’s continued interest in Reenie, hinted at in the Season 3 premiere of Tracker, there might be some romantic tension. Overall, this installment promises to focus heavily on Russell, as the show’s creators have suggested.
