When Rekha revealed she had to ‘grow up overnight’ to take care of her siblings, said women think they need marriage to feel complete: ‘My independence….’

As a lifestyle expert, I am deeply moved by Rekha’s extraordinary journey through life and her unwavering spirit. Her story serves as a beacon of inspiration for countless women out there, demonstrating that independence is indeed the most valuable gift one can give to oneself.

As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I’ve always held Rekha in high regard – an iconic actress who’s graced Indian cinema for over four decades. Today, on October 10, 2024, as she turns 70, I find myself reflecting on her timeless wisdom. In one of her old interviews, she shared insights about women and the notion that a husband and marriage are essential to complete their lives. Yet, Rekha stands firm in her belief that she’s gifted herself with the priceless treasure of independence.

The actress from Silsila consistently enchants viewers with her emotive expressions and hypnotizes them with her dancing. However, beneath her effortless elegance, exceptional acting skills, and striking beauty is a woman who has labored diligently since her youth and overcame various challenges.

In a 2011 interview with Filmfare, she shared that her acting career started at the age of 13, when she was more like a mother to her own family due to her strong maternal instincts which were present since birth and have continued throughout her life. She also suggested that it is natural for women to feel this way, as some people are destined to carry such roles throughout their lives.

Due to financial constraints, she played a crucial role in earning income for her family at an early age, maturing emotionally beyond her years. She also took care of her younger siblings and later saw some of them struggle with substance abuse. However, she chose to distance herself from such issues.

Rekha clarified that numerous women think they must get married in order to be fulfilled, but this is not accurate. As evidence, she pointed to Lata Mangeshkar as a prime example. Instead, Rekha expressed her personal sentiment that she considers self-reliance the greatest gift she’s given herself.

She expressed, “Many women believe that marriage or a partner is essential for their fulfillment. However, consider someone like Lataji, who consistently demonstrates that marriage doesn’t define one’s life. For me, my self-reliance is the most valuable present I have ever given myself.

Rekha boasts an impressive career spanning over 180 films across both Hindi and Southern cinema industries. Most recently, she appeared in the song “Rafta Rafta Medley” within the movie Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se.
