James Gunn’s DC Universe took off with his “Superman” movie debut, sparking great anticipation among fans like us for more information about the upcoming DC films in the reboot. Recently, Gunn has given an update on the casting process for our upcoming Wonder Woman character.
The filmmaker and joint leader at DC Studios is recognized for frequently addressing fan queries on social networks. A fan on Threads managed to get their query about Wonder Woman’s future addressed. They caught Gunn’s attention by posting a screenshot of an article suggesting that DC Studios was looking for an actress with a TV background, similar to Milly Alcock from Supergirl. When asked if this was true, Gunn responded affirmatively.
As a film critic, let me tell you, I don’t care where an actor has come from – be it TV or cinema. What matters to me is the casting. Milly wasn’t chosen for this role because of her past accomplishments, but simply because she was the most suitable for the part.
According to Scott Mendelson’s statement, there were disagreements as Gunn clarified that he does not base his casting decisions on certain factors as suggested. Instead, he focuses on selecting actors based on their talents and suitability for the role. This approach is evident in the movie ‘Superman’, which features a diverse cast of both film and television actors, with David Corenswet being relatively unknown prior to landing the part.
As a fellow cinephile, I’m excited to share some updates on the ongoing production of the much-anticipated Wonder Woman movie. Recently, there were rumors swirling that a film featuring our beloved hero might be moving swiftly through the development process, and I’m pleased to confirm this intriguing speculation! So, stay tuned as we continue to bring the magic of Diana to life on the big screen.
While it’s important, I wouldn’t say it’s expedited. There’s no rush to complete it without confidence in the quality of the script. Nothing will be hastily produced unless we’re certain it’s excellent.
As a die-hard DC fan, I’m thrilled about the future installments of the DC Universe, particularly the Gods and Monsters Chapter 1. While many projects are in their infancy stages, there’s plenty to be excited about! For instance, Supergirl will grace our screens in her next adventure, hitting cinemas on June 26, 2026. Before that, we can anticipate the release of Clayface in October of the same year. The Batman: Part II (part of the Elseworlds section) is slated for 2027, and an animated movie titled Dynamic Duo is scheduled for summer 2028. Can’t wait!
During an interview with Josh Horowitz, Gunn shared that he’s really looking forward to Wonder Woman, which is being written now in June. He mentioned that the script is taking a unique direction compared to other superhero movies and he’s thrilled about it. (However, don’t expect her to be towering at 6’5″ tall.)
Earlier, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, identified Wonder Woman as one of the key foundations (alongside Superman, Supergirl, and Batman) for the revamped DC Universe. This suggests that Wonder Woman is a crucial character they want to develop effectively. In the meantime, there’s bound to be an increase in fan artwork featuring potential candidates for the role of this superhero.
