As a dedicated cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of Bollywood’s most dynamic duos, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia reflecting on the two-year anniversary of Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva. The film’s director, Ayan Mukerji, shared an interesting anecdote about wanting to keep Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship under wraps during the film’s production.
Two years ago today, on September 9, 2022, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, made its debut. As we look back, it’s fascinating to remember when film director Ayan Mukerji shared that he initially didn’t want the world to see these two stars sharing the screen. In fact, he jokingly confessed that whenever Alia and Ranbir were spotted together off-set, he felt they were spoiling his movie!
At a poster unveiling event for Brahmāstra in 2021, director Ayan Mukerji discussed how he kept Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship private while working on the film. He expressed joy over casting them as he viewed both actors as immensely talented individuals. During the production of the movie, Ayan mentioned that their bond grew from friendship to something deeper.
Due to the fact that this was Alia and Ranbir’s first joint project, Ayan desired their on-screen pairing to be a fresh experience for viewers. He expressed, “Thus, I didn’t want the world to catch a glimpse of them for these four years. I wanted to keep them hidden until my movie wasn’t released yet.
Ayan expressed that numerous events were missed due to their frequent public appearances together, as he found himself often discouraging them, whispering “You’re sabotaging my movie! Stay put.” However, at the event, he was glad to finally introduce this duo to the world.
Dharma Productions, the studio responsible for creating the movie, marked its second anniversary by sharing a heartfelt post. They released a video highlighting poignant moments from the film with the message, “A movie portraying love and light conquering darkness.” The caption read, “Love & light continue to shine! Join us in celebrating #2YearsOfBrahmastra!” Take a look!
