Starting from June 20th, summer has officially begun, and it’s a real pity if you’re not immersing yourself in the joy of reading during this season. Although our focus is on romantic literature, there’s an abundance of fantastic non-romance books hitting the shelves as well.
2025 has been an exceptional year for book lovers, with numerous fantastic books hitting the shelves each month. Regardless if you lean towards independent publications or prefer traditionally published works, there’s certainly a treasure trove of reading material to indulge in.
It’s crucial to compile a list of romance books due for release in June, July, August, and early September. You might even stumble upon a new favorite author, which is always an enjoyable experience.
Like other lists, these are simply the books I discovered during my research. There are countless excellent resources available, so don’t forget to explore popular book websites for additional romance reads to include in your summer reading list.
These 20 romance books will have you looking forward to summer.

Without a doubt, I believe every summer reading list should include the captivating works of Ashley Poston. Her enchanting romance novels, infused with just the right amount of magic, are the perfect escape when you’re seeking something delightful. In her latest book, Sounds Like Love, she delves into a heartwarming romance between two musicians who find an unexpected connection. 2. I Think I’m in Love With an Alien by Ann Aguirre (June 17)
On June 17th, you might want to check out I Think I’m In Love With an Alien by Ann Aguirre. With her diverse range of romance novels catering to various age groups, you can trust anything she writes. This tale introduces Tamzir, an alien who was abandoned on Earth, but he maintains a digital identity known as Seeker. Seeker has formed a bond with Jennette and they, along with their friends, plan to meet at Space Con. It seems like it’s going to be an interstellar adventure filled with fun!
3. When Javi Dumped Mari by Mia Sosa (June 24)
Mia Sosa has penned some truly remarkable romances, and her latest from Putnam is definitely worth adding to your “to-be-read” list. Not only does it boast an exquisitely beautiful cover, but the story itself seems destined to become the ideal companion for your beach outing. The novel, titled “When Javi Dumped Mari“, revolves around Javi who harbors deep affection for Mari, but his hesitation leads to her getting engaged to someone else. Consequently, Javi finds himself in a race against time to demonstrate why he is the ideal partner for her. This romance certainly sounds like a one-of-a-kind tale.
4. An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward (June 24)
If you’re among those enjoying Summerween, here’s a book worth considering: “An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating” by debut author Cecilia Edward. This book not only boasts an attractive cover but also offers a unique tale. The main character, Thorn, is a 39-year-old witch who finds herself transported from the 17th century to the present day. Her journey of seeking love in modern times promises to be quite intriguing.
5. Crash Test by Amy James (July 1)
As we approach July releases, the captivating M/M romance novel “Crash Test” by Amy James will be available from July 1st. I’ve been fortunate enough to receive an advanced reader copy and have already delved into its pages. So far, just one chapter in, I can confidently say that it has me hooked. The story revolves around F1 drivers who secretly form a romantic partnership, with Jacob experiencing a serious accident. Travis finds himself at a loss as to how to handle the situation, suggesting that we’re in for a rollercoaster of fun and tension.
6. Scotch on the Rocks by Elliot Fletcher (July 8)
Occasionally, it’s acceptable to base your choice on a book’s exterior appeal, and “Scotch on the Rocks” by Eliot Fletcher might just have the most captivating cover in the entire collection. When you decide to explore
7. Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter (July 15)
As a devoted moviegoer, whenever I ponder my summer reading list, the name Lynn Painter invariably pops up first. She’s an author who effortlessly straddles both young adult and adult romance genres, making her a fantastic bridge for readers looking to expand their horizons. Her books are a delightful blend of fun and engaging, making them ideal for lounging on the beach.
Her latest offering from Berkley, titled “Maid for Each Other“, is set for release in July. This captivating tale centers around Abi, a cleaner who makes an unexpected decision to stay in one of her clients’ homes while he’s away. Little does she know that his parents will arrive, assuming she’s his girlfriend, leading to a series of comedic misunderstandings. I have no doubt that this book, like Lynn Painter’s other works, will be as entertaining and endearing as ever.
8. Roll for Romance by Lenora Woods ( July 15)
If you’re in search of a charming romance with a geeky twist, then you shouldn’t miss out on Roll for Romance by Lenora Woods. Making her literary debut, Woods introduces us to Sadie, a former New Yorker who finds herself back in Texas after losing her job. In this new setting, she becomes part of her friend’s Dungeons & Dragons group, where she crosses paths with the charismatic Noah, a bartender. This captivating tale promises an entertaining geeky adventure and significant character development for our protagonist, Sadie.
9. No Body No Crime by Tess Sharpe (July 15)
In a slight twist of perspective, “No Body No Crime” is a book that, while not strictly categorized as a romance, does contain elements of romance – hence my inclusion of it in this discussion. Generously provided was an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) by the publisher, for which I am deeply appreciative. The story unfolds around Mel, a private investigator, who is on the hunt for Chloe, her ex-friend and lover. Though the synopsis may not reveal it explicitly, their complicated past and potential reunion are hinted at throughout the narrative. The plot promises an emotionally charged and entertaining read, making it an ideal choice for a relaxing vacation.
10. August Lane by Regina Black (July 29)
wrapping up July, we have “August Lane” by Regina Black – a perfect read as we transition into August. To fully appreciate this book, it is recommended that you read Regina Black’s first novel, “A Touch of Scandal”, which was one of the most seductive books I encountered last year. Expect “August Lane” to maintain the same level of intensity. The story revolves around two accomplished country artists, August and Luke, who have a complicated past – ten years ago, Luke took credit for a song that was actually written by August. If this intrigue doesn’t pique your interest, I’m not sure what will, but it appears to be the romance we’ve all been anticipating.
11. If Not For My Baby by Kate Golden (August 5)
Occasionally, you might find yourself yearning for a heartfelt rockstar romance, and that’s where “If Not For My Baby” by Kate Golden fits the bill perfectly. After penning works in the romantasy genre, Golden now ventures into contemporary tales, and she couldn’t have chosen a more intriguing trope to launch with. The narrative revolves around Clementine, who serves as a backup singer, and gets an opportunity to tour with the highly acclaimed musician, Halloran. As their relationship blossoms, it doesn’t lack the expected drama – something that always piques my interest. “If Not For My Baby” promises to be an engaging read, one I have already added to my reading list.
12. Zomromcom by Olivia Dade (August 5)
Olivia Dade has been creating delightful books thus far, but she’s raising the bar significantly with “Zomromcom“. It seems like this book has been widely circulating due to its appealing cover, yet the storyline is even more intriguing. In “Zomromcom“, Edie finds herself teaming up with her neighbor, Gaston, during a zombie invasion. Oh, and let me add that Gaston happens to be a vampire! It appears this book will certainly meet its title’s expectations.
13. Red Card by Maren Moore (August 12)
14. Gabriela and His Grace by Liana De la Rosa (August 26)
On August 26th will be released the concluding novel in The Luna Sisters series titled “Gabriela and His Grace“. This is long-awaited as it tells Gabriela’s story. Author Liana De la Rosa has previously provided us with captivating and delightful romances, making me eager to witness Gabriela finding her Happy Ever After (HEA). As hinted, Gabriela and Sebastian find themselves stranded together on a ship bound for Mexico. This setup appears to offer an enticing scenario of close quarters, fostering tension and chemistry – aspects that Liana De la Rosa is skilled at developing.
15. The Secret Crush Book Club by Karmen Lee (August 26)
Don’t miss out on the third installment of Karmen Lee’s Peach Blossom series, “The Secret Crush Book Club,” set for release on August 26th! This series is known for its sapphic romances and, given that I finished reading “The 7-10 Split” in just one afternoon, I can vouch for their beach-worthy appeal. The story revolves around Dani, a single mom, and Zoe, the town’s fresh librarian. Their shared love for books leads them to join a book club together, sparking a romance that promises to be an engaging read for any book enthusiast.
16. The Gilded Heiress by Joanna Shupe (August 26)
Among all authors, Joanna Shupe is the one I’d put aside other tasks to read. Although I don’t delve much into historical romance, I’ve read every book by Joanna Shupe, so I’ve been eagerly anticipating a new release. Finally, it’s here with “The Gilded Heiress,” a story inspired by Anastasia. The protagonist is Josie, who catches Leo’s eye on the street because she resembles the mother of a missing baby. Intrigued, he plans to make a quick profit and pull off a scheme involving her. Given that it’s a Joanna Shupe novel, I have no doubt I’ll enjoy it regardless of the plot.
17. The Good Girl Effect by Sara Cate (September 2)
Initially glancing at the September publication, the title that immediately caught my attention was “The Good Girl Effect” by Sara Cate. This serves as the initial installment of her “Salacious Legacy” series, making it essential to complete the prior series before diving in. In “The Good Girl Effect”, we follow Jack St Claire, a widowed father seeking a live-in nanny. He encounters Camille and it seems like an intriguing blend of romance and passion between these unconventional partners. Given Sara Cate’s reputation for crafting captivating tales, I’m confident it will be an enjoyable read.
18. By the Horns by Ruby Dixon (September 2)
In the realm of monster and alien romances, Ruby Dixon reigns supreme, making it clear that “By The Horns” will carry on this tradition. Among the many books I’ve read this year, “Bull Moon Rising” stood out as one of my favorites, so I eagerly anticipate what’s to come next. “By the Horns” delves into the romance between Gwenna, a character introduced in the initial book, and Raptor, who harbors an overly strong attachment towards her. However, due to his belief that she is a thief and mounting evidence against her, we’ll have to watch as these two navigate their feelings for each other amidst the confusion.
19. People Watching by Hannah Bonam-Young (September 9)
Hannah Bonam-Young is set to publish her upcoming novel titled “People Watching“, which follows Prue as she juggles caring for her parents and navigating her personal life. Enter Milo, a free-spirited traveler, who forms a friendship – possibly more – with Prue. However, their contrasting lifestyles might pose challenges that could prove to be their undoing. This enthralling tale seems ideal for those looking to embrace the shift from summer into fall.
20. We Met Like This by Kasie West (September 16)
Completing our list is “We Met Like This” by Kasie West, an author well-known for her young adult novels. She’s now stepping into the realm of adult romance with this debut, and I must admit, I’m thrilled about it. Kasie West’s books were a joy to read when I rekindled my love for reading, so this is particularly exciting news. “We Met Like This” tells a romantic story about Margo and Oliver, who initially had a disastrous date but keep on crossing paths through dating apps. It seems like the perfect blend for an enjoyable and charming romance from our favorite author.
