The band is, quite literally, playing on — only without its lead singer.
Despite the tragic loss of his fiancée, who is now presumed dead after going overboard three days ago, Faster Pussycat’s gig on the ’80s nostalgia cruise later this week will proceed as planned. A source close to the band has confirmed that lead singer Taime Downe will not perform and instead, Faster Pussycat will play a set of cover songs in his absence.
56-year-old Kimberly Burch allegedly fell from the Royal Caribbean ship, Explorer of the Seas, on March 2nd, following an altercation with her partner, Downe (age 60). The specifics of how she fell are uncertain – whether it was accidental or intentional – but Burch’s mother claims to TMZ that her daughter wouldn’t have deliberately harmed herself. As reported by Page Six, Burch and Downe have been in a relationship for seven years.
Despite the singer’s absence, his glam metal band is still committed to delivering a second performance as part of their contract for the cruise show. This year’s The 80s Cruise lineup also features artists like Squeeze, Adam Ant, Tiffany, and Men at Work.
Royal Caribbean’s press team did not respond to an inquiry regarding the schedule. However, a representative from Royal Caribbean informed THR on Tuesday: “Upon learning about the incident, our crew swiftly initiated a search and rescue operation, are collaborating with local authorities, and are offering support and assistance to the family of the affected passenger during this challenging period. To preserve the privacy of the family, we cannot disclose any further details at this time.
As a gamer, I chatted with a fellow passenger who preferred to stay unnamed about the unexpected event that unfolded late in the evening. “Last night, the music from Squeeze filled the air. Suddenly, an announcement echoed across the PA system, informing us that someone had gone overboard, causing the ship to halt and change course in an attempt to find the missing individual.
The traveler remarked, “The vessel halted for several hours. Search boats equipped with spotlights were launched to brighten up the surroundings. A neighboring cruise ship also switched on its searchlights. My spouse conversed with individuals on one of the decks who claimed they heard that it was a woman and she was captured on video, although this hasn’t been verified. Later, the ship resumed functioning and we continued our journey. This morning, an announcement over the PA system stated that the US Coast Guard had assumed control of the search. We arrived in Nassau, Bahamas slightly late. No tours were canceled. There haven’t been any updates since.
This cruise offers over 50 music performances, and attendees have the opportunity to meet and engage with their favorite artists. The 2024 version of this cruise included acts such as Wang Chung, Air Supply, Soft Cell, The English Beat, Debbie Gibson, The Escape Club, and 38 Special.
This seven-day voyage departs from Miami, making stops at Nassau, San Juan, and Puerto Plata before returning to its starting point.
