Disney Is Releasing A Pop-Punk Album Of The Studio's Hits, And I'm Getting Nostalgic On Two Levels

As a long-time gamer and Disney enthusiast, I couldn’t be more excited about Disney’s upcoming pop-punk album, “A Whole New Sound.” Growing up, I was a huge fan of both Disney movies and music. The Disneymania series of albums, featuring popular singers and bands covering classic Disney tunes, were a staple in my childhood. I remember singing along to Smash Mouth’s version of “I Wanna Be Like You” from Jungle Book and the Jonas Brothers’ rendition of “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).”

The Walt Disney Company marks a century-long journey as a renowned studio and entertainment giant, leaving an impressive legacy behind. Among its numerous accomplishments, the music composed for its iconic movies stands out as a particularly noteworthy aspect. For the first time, Disney caters to its punk fanbase with something new and exclusive.

Disney is Releasing A Pop-Punk Album, And I’m Already Obsessed

Disney has made an exciting announcement: a fresh new cover album titled “A Whole New Sound” is on its way, brimming with beloved Disney tunes. Renowned alternative, rock, and pop punk artists will lend their unique styles to re-create some of Disney’s most iconic hits.

When Disney made the announcement, they released the initial track from the collection. For this project, Simple Plan contributed their unique take on “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” and trust me, it’s worth checking out. You can find it on YouTube for your listening pleasure.

Simple Plan’s inclusion in this album is a fantastic addition to the pop punk lineup. Known for hits like “I’m Just A Kid” from 2002, and numerous other noteworthy tracks throughout their career, they are a cherished band within the genre. While Disney has yet to reveal which other punk bands or songs will be featured, Simple Plan serves as an excellent starting point for this exciting compilation. Potential contributors could include the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Pierce The Veil, Jimmy Eat World, or even Paramore, who are currently gaining significant attention through their Eras Tour and recording new tracks.

Disney made an exciting announcement: Simple Plan is set to perform “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” at D23 on August 9, in honor of The Lion King’s 30th anniversary celebration. Additionally, Barry Jenkins’ “Mufasa” movie will be the next live-action Disney production to hit the screens.

I’m thrilled to pieces about the newfound recognition punk bands are receiving from Disney! As a kid who grew up with Disney, I can’t help but reminisce about the Disneymania series of albums that featured popular singers and bands reinterpreting classic Disney tunes. Memories flood back: Smash Mouth brought their unique energy to “I Wanna Be Like You” from Jungle Book, the Jonas Brothers added their own twist to “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me),” Selena Gomez gave “Cruella De Vil” a modern edge, and Jessica Simpson infused “Part Of Your World” with her signature charm. The list goes on!

Growing up during Disney Channel’s golden era as a child, I used to enjoy listening to those cover songs. It’s exciting for me to think that the new album will introduce younger audiences to pop punk bands. And who knows? Maybe parents my age and beyond will find themselves tapping their feet to some of the tracks as well.

I’m excited to learn how these bands are inspiring fans to revisit Disney’s extensive musical catalog. Whether they’re breathing new life into upbeat Disney tunes or giving a fresh twist to more melancholic tracks that align with pop punk, I’m intrigued to find out.
