However, I firmly believe that there should be no rush for a second season without Sally Rooney’s involvement. The story was beautifully told in the first season, and I would hate to see it stretched out unnecessarily just for the sake of more content.
When we encountered Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, the stars of the 2020 film adaptation of Sally Rooney’s acclaimed romance novel “Normal People,” we hadn’t previously known them. Fast forward to present day, these actors have risen to prominence, headlining major Hollywood productions. Edgar-Jones features in “Twisters” with Glen Powell this month, while Mescal recently worked with Ridley Scott for the upcoming “Gladiator II.” However, there’s a possibility they might reprise their roles in a second season of “Normal People.” The actress portraying Marianne shared her thoughts on the matter.
In 2022, Mescal expressed his stance on the matter. The Irish thespian voiced his support for a second season, but later admitted honestly that there are currently no arrangements being made for another installment of “Normal People.” During promotional activities for “Twisters,” Edgar-Jones was questioned about this topic by BBC, and she responded accordingly.

Certainly, I believe there’s potential for more romantic development between Marianne and Connell in “Normal People,” should Sally Rooney choose to explore it. However, I suspect that depicting their relationship years after the events of Season 1 might add complexity to the storyline. Yet, this approach could also enable us to follow their lives as they progress through time, ultimately reuniting with them much later on. When asked about her thoughts on this possibility, the actress from “Where the Crawdads Sing” replied:

While pondering over her significant part in “Twisters” alongside Mescal, Daisy Edgar-Jones expressed her profound gratitude for the “lockdown situation” providing an abundance of chances for both of them.
Paul Mescal is currently among Edgar-Jones’s closest friends, as they were recently spotted enjoying each other’s company at Glastonbury Festival a few weeks ago. Four years on, I can’t help but marvel at how brilliantly “Normal People” has left an indelible mark on Hulu’s original content. This captivating series weaves a intricate and thought-provoking tale of two high school companions, expertly portraying grief, anxiety, and depression through the duo’s moving performances. Though there seems to be no talk of expanding “Normal People” beyond its novel and miniseries form, it’s heartening to know that both leads would entertain the idea if Daisy Rooney were to consider it.
