Call of Duty fans feel lied to about Season 5's big collaboration

As a long-time Call of Duty fan and avid comic book reader, I was beyond excited when I heard rumors of a Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration coming to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. The idea of playing as these iconic characters in my favorite first-person shooter game felt like a perfect match.

Prepare for an exhilarating clash as Call of Duty unveils its major crossover between Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone during Season 5. Although Black Ops 6 is anticipated to restore some authenticity to the franchise, it seems Warzone will continue to be a diverse mix of characters like King Kong, Nicki Minaj, and sloths under the influence of weed.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that Call of Duty seems to be straying further and further away from its military simulation roots with each update. I have to admit, some of the collaborations have been pretty out there. But there was one crossover that had us excited. With Shawn Levy’s Deadpool and Wolverine movie just around the corner, we were eagerly anticipating the comic book chaos making its way into Call of Duty.

Call of Duty’s Season 5 collab isn’t the one you wanted

WWE featuring in a Call of Duty game seems unlikely to me. I’d rather see Deadpool and Wolverine instead. Deadpool is an ex-special forces mercenary, and we already have mercenaries in the game. Wolverine served in World War II, which aligns with his comic book background. Plus, a Deadpool and Wolverine collaboration would make perfect sense given that a movie featuring both characters is set to release just two days after season 5 of the WWE series.

The official Call of Duty social media channels have announced a “showdown” on July 24, hinting that Season 5 will be collaborating with the rumored WWE partnership. The thought of the Merc with a Mouth and the clawed Canadian causing chaos in CoD was already exciting for us, but the addition of Deadpool and Wolverine, set to be released on July 25, only heightens our anticipation.

When word got out about the WWE collaboration, many fans expressed their disappointment. One frustrated gamer exclaimed, “What the fool is this not Deadpool, I want my money back,” and another remarked, “Ugh, another Call of Duty. Deadpool and Wolverine are way cooler. I’d rather be controlling the badass mercenary Ryan Reynolds portrays than some guy in a strange costume performing scripted ‘wrestling’.”

A third person expressed, “If we go with this collaboration instead of Deadpool, I won’t be participating next season – that’s the truth,” while someone else questioned, “You chose this over Deadpool versus Wolverine? What connection does WWE have to Call of Duty?” It is essential to keep in mind that Deadpool and Wolverine’s collaboration was not officially announced but merely appeared similar based on the finishers.

However, with the beginning of Season 5 aligning almost perfectly with what looks to be the biggest movie of 2024, it seems that time has moved on. Whether the Deadpool and Wolverine collaboration was postponed or our expectations were unrealistic, we’re as frustrated as the Hulk in his angriest form.
