Kate Winslet Cracks Glass Ceiling Among War Photographers in Latest ‘Lee’ Trailer

As a huge fan of both Kate Winslet and historical biopics, I am absolutely thrilled to see her take on the role of real-life American war correspondent Lee Miller in the upcoming Sky Original film, “Lee.” The latest trailer for this intriguing project reveals Winslet’s character’s unwavering determination to document Nazi atrocities despite facing both bombs and bullets as well as rampant sexism among her Second World War correspondent colleagues.

As explosions rock the battlefield and gunfire whizzes by, I, as Kate Winslet’s character, must contend with the prejudice of my Second World War correspondent colleagues in the newest teaser for “Lee.”

In the biographical film “Sky” directed by Ellen Kuras, Kate Winslet takes on the role of the true-life American war correspondent Lee Miller.

“I’m eager to contribute as well. Why do men get to have the final say on this matter?,?” Winslet queries her editor, Andrea Riseborough, in the film trailer.

Overcoming the challenges that prevented many women from reporting on battlefronts for British Vogue, Lee managed to document pivotal wartime scenes. She captured images of the devastation brought about by the Blitz and the aftermath of D-Day. However, this came at a cost for Lee as she experienced the harsh realities of war up close as an authorized American journalist.

“Despite my urge to avoid, I couldn’t help but keep watching as harrowing war scenes flashed before me,” Winslet’s character explains in 1977, her expression reflecting the intensity of the memories. She speaks to Tony, a young journalist portrayed by O’Connor, about her courageous past during wartime through recollections.

In the newest preview, Andy Samberg takes on the role of Life Magazine photographer David E. Scherman. meanwhile, Alexander Skarsgård brings English Surrealist painter and photographer Roland Penrose to life. Lastly, Marion Cotillard portrays Solange D’Ayen, the fashion director at French Vogue and a friend of Lee.

The Sky Original film will debut in British and Irish cinemas on Sept. 13, 2024
