The Acolyte Showrunner Teases the Possible Return of Several Characters in Future Star Wars Projects

As a long-time Star Wars fan and gamer, I have to admit that I’ve been left feeling disappointed by The Acolyte‘s treatment of some of its most intriguing characters. The sudden and seemingly unnecessary deaths of Jecki (Dafne Keen) and Yord (Charlie Barnett) in episode five was a shocking and disappointing turn. I understand that unexpected twists and turns are part of the Star Wars universe, but these characters had so much potential and backstory that it felt like a waste to see them go so early.

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Acolyte.

As a dedicated fan of “Star Wars” and its new live-action series, “The Acolyte,” I must admit that one aspect of the show that has left me both surprised and saddened is the seemingly premature demise of intriguing characters. The Galactic Sequence seems to have a penchant for snuffing out fascinating figures before their time, as demonstrated by the untimely ends of iconic characters like Darth Maul, Snoke, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In episode five of “The Mandalorian” series, I watched in awe as Master Sol, played by Lee Jung-jae, and his team of Jedi squared off against The Stranger, later revealed to be Qimir, portrayed by Manny Jacinto. But the anticipated clash quickly turned into a horrifying massacre. In one of the most shocking moments of the show so far, Qimir mercilessly took down Sol’s young Jedi trainees, including the talented Jecki (Dafne Keen) and Yord (Charlie Barnett). Although creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Karen Gaviola had always intended to write these characters out halfway through the season in episode five (“Night”), they left open the possibility that we might see Sol, Jecki, and Yord again in future “Star Wars” content.

I’m thrilled when fans ask about the prospect of Jecki and Yord making a comeback. To be honest, the idea appeals to me as well.

“Absolutely, Pablo Hidalgo and I have discussed this after finishing the season. I have some ideas for developing certain characters further, like Yord Fandar, whom I have a rich background with from my gaming days. Since we didn’t delve deep into their stories during the episodes, it’s intriguing to find ways to continue exploring them.”

Characters from “The Acolyte” are gaining renewed significance in other “Star Wars” platforms. For instance, Kelnacca the Wookiee is starring in a new comic book series due to his popularity among viewers, despite being one of the characters who met an untimely demise mid-season. Characters like Yord and Jecki, who were equally intriguing with vast potential, could also find a place in shows such as “Tales of the Jedi,” currently streaming on Disney+.

Is The Acolyte the Most Divisive Star Wars Project Yet?

Fans might be interested in a new series featuring Yord and Jecki as the main characters. This is a possibility, but the current Star Wars fanbase, which has been divided after some disappointing films and TV shows, might not be as open to this idea. Once upon a time, The Mandalorian brought Star Wars fans together in a way not experienced since the original trilogy. However, following a series of lackluster film and television releases, Lucasfilm is facing criticism from fans who believe the Star Wars franchise is being diluted with subpar content.

Before its debut, “The Acolyte” sparked debate amongst fans, with some expressing concern over Headland’s handling of the franchise’s history. The series currently holds an impressive 80% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes but a disappointing 14% score from viewers. Following Headland’s revelation that one of the writers hadn’t seen “Star Wars” and her remarks about the criticism, more disappointed fans have further lowered the show’s rating. As things stand, Disney+ has not yet announced plans for a second season, but fans are urging them to do so using the #RenewTheAcolyte hashtag on social media.
