In response, Gass made a comment referring to the recent assassination attempt on Trump’s life, saying “Don’t miss Trump next time.” This statement was a direct allusion to the events that transpired over the weekend. Moreover, Black has announced more than just the cancellation of their tour. He declared that all future creative plans for the band have been put on hold as well. As a gamer, I was taken aback by some unexpected comments made at the gaming convention last Sunday. I firmly believe that promoting hate speech or inciting political violence goes against the values of respect and peace in our community. After carefully considering my stance on this matter, I have decided to suspend the Tenacious D tour and put all upcoming creative projects on hold. I’m thankful for the fans’ unwavering support and understanding during this time.
The Remark Made at the Tenacious D Concert Was Met With Swift Criticism
Gass’ remarks sparked strong opposition, not just in Australia where the performance took place, but globally. The Australian senator advocated for their expulsion. Criticism against the band intensified worldwide. Initially intending to travel to New Zealand next on their tour, Tenacious D’s plans were put on hold by Frontier Touring. They announced on social media that the show in Newcastle Entertainment Centre had been postponed. With Black’s recent statements, it seems all of Tenacious D’s tour plans are now indefinitely delayed.
The band had planned to kick off the American portion of their tour in October; several shows were already fully booked. Unfortunately, Black didn’t provide details about the U.S. tour, but it’s likely that these arrangements have been scrapped as well. For those who purchased tickets, refunds will be issued at a later time. Should any remaining dates surface for this tour, they will be announced at a later date as well.
Tenacious D is a comedy rock band made up of two members, Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Established in 1994, they released their debut album in 2001. The duo expanded into films, producing “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny” in 2006, which faced mixed criticism and failed to surpass its $20 million production cost with a box office revenue of $14 million. Nevertheless, they’ve built a dedicated fanbase and continue selling out arenas. They were also recognized with a Grammy Award for Best Heavy Metal Performance in 2005 for their hit single, “The Last in Line.” Their latest contribution is a song for the fourth installment of Black’s successful animated series, “Kung Fu Panda.”
