As a huge fan of Joe Armon-Jones and his unique blend of jazz and reggae, I’m thrilled to see the release of his latest project, “Ceasefire.” The second installment in his “Aquarii in Dub” series, this EP is a powerful call for peace in a world that seems to be consumed by conflict.
Joe Armon-Jones, who is a keyboardist, composer, and producer, has unveiled his latest work titled “Ceasefire” as part of his continuing “Aquarii in Dub” series. This release comes following March’s EP, “Wrong Side Of Town“. Collaborating with his Ezra Collective bandmate James Mollison and reggae legend Ranking Joe on vocals, this project consists of four enthralling tracks. The lead track “Ceasefire” boasts DJ Ranking Joe’s powerful voice, while “Hornsfire” showcases an impressive tenor saxophone performance by Mollison over the “Ceasefire” rhythm. In “Rhodesfire,” Armon-Jones takes center stage with another reimagined rendition of “Ceasefire” using his Fender Rhodes keyboard, and “Dubfire” offers a dub version based on an alternative bass line for “Ceasefire.”
The project’s cover art, featuring a robust soundsystem facing ominous clouds and a crumbling metropolis, and its title track’s evocative vocals, serve as a plea for tranquility amidst the turmoil of ongoing global conflicts. As Armon-Jones expressed, “This cycle never ends.” The song was penned in 2020, but the violence persists, fueled by individuals profiting from the suffering of innocent people. We inhabit a heartless world where Palestinians have been enduring apartheid for years and now confront a genocide orchestrated by Israel, backed financially by the United States and Britain. Ranking Joe urges for a truce, not only for Israeli occupiers but also for everyone worldwide who would take another person’s life. Such an action is reprehensible and intolerable.
