Star Wars: The Acolyte Creator Confirms Those Huge Deaths

As a dedicated fan of “The Acolyte,” I was left reeling after the shocking twist ending of Episode 7. The confirmation from creator Leslye Headland that the witches of Brendok are indeed dead, including Mother Koril, is a heavy blow to those of us who had grown fond of these complex characters. Indara’s impulsive decision to save Kelnacca and free him from the influence of the coven came with unforeseen consequences, and it’s clear that she will have to live with the ramifications of those deaths for a long time.

If you have any doubts, the witches of Brendok have definitely met their end in “The Acolyte” Episode 7’s surprising finale, as confirmed by show creator Leslye Headland. Although Indara (played by Carrie-Anne Moss) may have had other plans, Headland shares with Collider that “they’re dead. I would leave it up to interpretation whether Indara knocked them out and they perished in the larger fire or disaster.”

Indara acted instinctively to detach the coven from the Force for the sake of freeing Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo), an exceptional Wookiee Jedi, and releasing his mind from their control. This decision bore far-reaching consequences beyond just saving her friends’ lives. Headland posits that Indara may have been compelled to act swiftly, leaving her to deal with the aftermath of numerous deaths without any counsel or oversight from the Jedi Council. “Perhaps it was a matter of self-preservation, perhaps just protecting her friend,” she explained, “but ‘I must make this decision now. I don’t have time to consult the council. I don’t have time to ponder whether or not… In this moment, I must act,'” she said.

As a gamer, I’ve come across some intriguing in-game lore about Indara’s hasty decision. One thing that stands out is the disappearance of at least one Wendak witch’s body. I’ve observed this detail closely, and Headland certainly hasn’t missed it too.

Several viewers have pointed out that Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva), one of the witches, seems to vanish from the scene following Indara’s rescue attempt. Although Leslye Headland, the showrunner, has hinted at the possibility that something other than death may have befallen Koril, such as transforming into a spirit or disappearing to reappear in the last episode. Headland playfully commented, “Now Coral – no corpse, no demise.”

Although it’s evident that Koril is nowhere to be found right before Indara unleashes her powers, typically, when someone strong vanishes amidst death, they have merged with the Force. However, the Brendok witches would never accept or entertain such a notion. Consequently, this absence could suggest that Indara and her twin daughters, Mae and Osha (played by Amandla Stenberg), are the lone survivors among the coven. However, viewers must remain patient to discover if this theory holds true when “The Acolyte” premieres its final episode on July 16.
