9-1-1: Lone Star Finally Gets Season 5 Premiere Date From Fox, But I'm Bummed That Not Everybody Will Be Back

As a dedicated fan of 9-1-1: Lone Star, I’ve eagerly awaited the return of this gripping and emotional series since its abrupt hiatus due to strikes in the TV industry. The news that season 5 will finally premiere on September 23, 2024, has brought me immense joy. However, the bittersweet revelation that Sierra McClain won’t be reprising her role as Grace, my favorite character from both 9-1-1 shows and Judd’s loving wife, is a significant blow to me.

The fifth season of “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which features Rob Lowe, has been missing from our TV screens for over a year now. Its absence was caused by the writers’ strike at the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and actors’ strike at SAG-AFTRA, leading to its postponement on Fox. However, we now have confirmation that the show will make its comeback in the 2024 TV lineup, and surprisingly, its premiere is scheduled before the return of “9-1-1” on ABC.

When To Expect 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 (And What’s Coming)

Beginning September 23, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, the initial episode of “9-1-1: Lone Star” following May 2023 is slated as the Season 5 premiere. This marks the first broadcast of “Lone Star” since “9-1-1” transferred from Fox to ABC after being terminated. Notably, “9-1-1” resumes with Season 8 on Thursdays, starting September 26. Consequently, “Lone Star” will be the first of the two shows to debut during fall primetime on Fox.

As a long-time fan of the heroes in “The 126,” I’m thrilled to share that we finally get to join them on new adventures after the much-anticipated Tarlos wedding! Fox has given us a sneak peek into the upcoming fifth season, and I can hardly contain my excitement. The storyline starts with a multi-episodic event involving a train derailment – a dangerous situation that puts some of our favorite characters in peril.

On the Tarlos homefront, their marriage will face trials – as every relationship does have its challenges – when Carlos becomes consumed by the quest to unravel the mystery of his father’s murder, and T.K. receives an unexpected visit from someone from her past on her 30th birthday.

Owen has the task of selecting a new lieutenant since both Paul and Marjan have applied for the position. The reason for this change may be linked to Judd’s departure from the 126 team before Season 5, which is unfortunate news. Judd left to take care of Wyatt after he was injured, so it seems that person won’t be available anymore.

Sierra McClain Won’t Be Back

Sierra McClain played a significant role in the first four seasons of “9-1-1: Lone Star,” portraying Grace, a 9-1-1 operator and Judd’s wife. However, it was revealed just weeks before the premiere date that McClain wouldn’t be coming back for Season 5. Despite “Lone Star” being an ensemble production, Judd and Grace’s romantic storyline was my favorite from both versions of “9-1-1.” I’ll surely miss their on-screen presence together in the upcoming season.

In essence, the show’s future seems uncertain without Grace, as McClain reportedly left “Lone Star” due to contract disputes and other cast members are already searching for new opportunities, hinting that the fifth season could be its last. We may not have to wait much longer to learn the truth.

The cast of “Lone Star” has until July 19, when production for Season 5 is set to conclude, to have their contracts renewed. If these options aren’t extended, it’s highly likely that the upcoming season will be the last. Regarding my current priorities, I’m more focused on how Grace’s absence will be addressed in the storyline. It would be ideal if Sierra McClain could make a guest appearance or cameo, but we’ll have to wait and see.

While we anxiously await updates on the release schedule for “9-1-1: Lone Star” past its September 23 premiere, consider revisiting previously aired episodes by accessing the first four seasons, which are currently available to stream through your Hulu membership.
