As a passionate gamer and music lover, I can only imagine the excitement and determination Silvia Stoyanova must have felt when she finally managed to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, despite facing numerous obstacles due to lack of wheelchair access. Her story is both inspiring and disheartening, as it highlights the challenges that people with disabilities continue to face in accessing live music events.
Many devoted Swift fans considered obtaining tickets to the Eras Tour via Ticketmaster a formidable challenge, even going so far as to call it “the Great War.” However, for Silvia Stoyanova, this was merely the initial skirmish in a larger campaign for improved accessibility to concerts, including those of Taylor Swift. When informed that she wouldn’t be able to attend due to insufficient wheelchair accommodations, she refused to back down and ultimately made it to the event. Now, Silvia is recounting her experience.
In July 2023, Stoyanova purchased top-tier tickets for Swift’s concert in Milan. However, when she went to the venue, she was informed that the front row did not have wheelchair access and that the designated wheelchair section had been sold out. Disappointed, she started a petition on Change.org to increase wheelchair accessibility at the stadium. Furthermore, she contacted Italy’s disability minister to advocate for more inclusive experiences for people with disabilities.
After several months of waiting, she finally received a ticket. She seized the opportunity to create friendship bracelets during the event, savored every moment, and later shared her experiences with Varity in an interview.
At first, due to our lateral seating, I focused on the screens. A large power pole obstructed our view initially. However, we eventually adjusted our positions and I’d occasionally peek at the stage in awe. After watching countless TikTok videos of Taylor Swift this year, observing her on the screens felt oddly familiar but unsatisfying. Yet, when she came into view directly on the center stage, I was struck by the realization that we were all sharing the same atmosphere. The heat, the sounds, and emotions united us in an incredible way. It was a genuine connection, despite the crowd of 60,000 people. Ultimately, the experience became real.

Although the experience was genuine and enjoyable for her, there are still tasks left undone. She pointed out that she unfortunately missed the initial 40 minutes of the performance at the stadium due to not being able to locate the entrance to the disabled viewing area. Despite this setback, she managed to attend and witness the majority of the concert.
After going through numerous challenges to attend, she was thrilled to finally witness Taylor Swift’s performance in person. She described it as a deeply moving experience. Her favorite part was “All Too Well,” as it resonated deeply with her and made her feel a strong connection not only to Swift but also to other Swift fans. I completely concur, as both the “Reputation” stage design and “Champagne Problems” were exceptional during the Eras Tour.
Overall, it was an emotional night, and she was thrilled to be there, as she said:
During each song at the concert, tears flowed freely from my eyes. I released a year’s worth of built-up tension, stress, and fear. My mom and friend wondered why I was crying, having secured our tickets. I explained, “I know we made it in. That’s why I can’t help but cry.”
In addition to describing her concert experience, Silvia Stoyanova expressed her commitment and advocacy efforts for enhancing disability access.
It brings me great joy that she had the opportunity to attend the show and experience “All Too Well” and the unexpected numbers. Yet, I can’t help but feel disappointed that securing her attendance required such an effort and caused her to miss the beginning.
Although there is still much progress to be made, I believe Stoyanova’s experience demonstrates that we are making headway in the right direction. Let’s hope this will also give a louder platform to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to access events like The Eras Tour without having to struggle for it.
