As a dedicated gamer with years of experience in the Magic: The Gathering community, I’m always on the lookout for unique and innovative additions to my ever-expanding collection. The latest collaboration between MTG and Brain Dead has truly piqued my interest.
In the realm of “Magic: The Gathering,” the game’s exclusive sub-brand, named “Secret Lair,” is known for its partnerships that invite creators outside the “MTG” community to bring their distinctive styles and concepts to life through card art and themes. Most “Secret Lair” releases thus far have involved collaborations with other games such as “Arcane,” “Fortnite,” and “League of Legends.”
In their newest edition, Magic: The Gathering collaborated with Brain Dead, a creative collective based in Los Angeles, recognized for their unique and sometimes unconventional designs.
The collaboration between Secret Lair and Brain Dead has resulted in three distinct drops: one for Creatures, another for Lands, and a third for Staples. For the Creature drop, Brain Dead chose beloved characters such as the Sphinx, Goblin Shaman, and the gooey green Ooze, giving them unique and amusing makeovers.
Using the brand Lands, they created two distinct cards for every environment, highlighting various features of Magic: The Gathering’s landscapes. In contrast, Staple offers Commander cards that are included in a deck of 100, used by four players during gameplay.
The artwork on the cards was designed by a team consisting of Gage Lindsten, Ema Gaspar, Gomzé, JRZ251, Hank Reavis, Bardo Bread, and Jackson Epstein, with contributions from Kogan as well.
I’m thrilled to share that on the Secret Lair website, you can get your hands on each drop for just $30 USD, while foil versions will set you back by $40 USD. Brain Dead has also generously treated us fans with a line of merchandise proudly emblazoned with the Secret Lair label.
