Emmys: Paul Rudd and Ryan Gosling Among First-Time Nominees

As a long-time gamer and avid follower of awards shows, I can’t help but feel excited and thrilled by this year’s Emmy nominations! The list of first-time nominees really stands out to me – it’s always amazing to see new talent being recognized for their contributions to the entertainment industry.

On Wednesdays mornings, the Emmy Award nominees for 2024 were unveiled, featuring newcomers such as Paul Rudd and Ryan Gosling on the esteemed roster.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that for the first time ever, I’ve made it to the Emmy Awards! In season three of “Only Murders in the Building,” my character Rudd snagged a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy. It feels surreal to be in the same league as the talented cast and crew.

I’m thrilled to share that two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts has earned her first Emmy nod for her remarkable performance in “Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” This recognition comes under the category of best actress in a limited or anthology series. What an honor it is to be in this esteemed company, competing against the talented Jodie Foster (“True Detective: Night Country”), Brie Larson (“Lessons in Chemistry”), Juno Temple (“Fargo”), and Sofía Vergara (“Griselda”). I can’t wait for the Emmy Awards ceremony to see who takes home the coveted statue!

Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who gained an Oscar win this year for her supporting performance in “The Holdovers,” marked her first Emmy nomination for guest actress in a comedy series. This recognition came following her appearance in the third season of “Only Murders in the Building.” In the Emmy competition, she’ll face off against fellow Oscar recipients Olivia Colman (“The Bear”) and Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear”). Additionally, comedy veterans Kaitlin Olson (“Hacks”), Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live”), and Kristen Wiig (“Saturday Night Live”) are her opponents.

I’m thrilled to see veteran actress Parker Posey making her Emmy debut in the guest actress category! She received a nomination for her exceptional performance in “Mr & Mrs. Smith.”

Dominic West, a fresh Emmy nominee, shines in the best actor in a drama series category for his role as Prince Charles in “The Crown.” Previously overlooked for this part last year and his iconic performance as Jimmy McNulty in “The Wire,” West now competes alongside debutant Hiroyuki Sanada. Sanada gained recognition for his leading role as Yoshii Toranaga in “Shogun.” West and Sanada face off against past nominees Idris Elba (“Hijack”), Donald Glover (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Walton Goggins (“Fallout”), and Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”).

Sanada’s “Shogun” co-stars received their initial Emmy nominations. Anna Sawai is nominated for lead actress in a drama series, while Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira are contenders for supporting actor in a drama. Néstor Carbonell from “Shogun” is also in the running for guest actor in a drama category. The Japanese production, which debuted in February, secured an impressive 25 nominations at this year’s Emmys.

Newcomer Jack Lowden (“Slow Horses”) and Tracy Letts (“Winning Time”), who are both making their first appearances, are nominated for best supporting actor in a drama and guest category, respectively.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “I’m thrilled to see my fellow castmates Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach earn their second Emmy nominations for ‘The Bear.’ It’s an amazing accomplishment! But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Two new members of our team have joined the race. Lionel Boyce is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and he’s going head-to-head with Moss-Bachrach. Meanwhile, Liza Colón Zayas has been recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category. What an incredible achievement for our whole team!”

In the drama category for best supporting actress, some fresh faces emerged alongside the top contenders: Greta Lee, Nicole Beharie, and Karen Pittman from “The Morning Show,” as well as Lesley Manville of “The Crown.”

Tom Hollander earned his initial Emmy nomination in the lead actor category for his portrayal of Truman Capote in “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” Similarly, Richard Gadd secured a nomination for acting in the same category, as well as for producing and writing the Netflix limited series “Baby Reindeer.” Additionally, Gadd was recognized with nominations for best limited series and outstanding writing for a limited series.

Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau, who acted alongside Baby Reindeer’s Gadd in a limited series, are vying for the title of Best Supporting Actress at the Emmys. They shared this category with several other newcomers, including Aja Naomi King (Lessons in Chemistry), Lily Gladstone (Under the Bridge), Dakota Fanning (Ripley), and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country).

As a big fan, I’m thrilled to share that Tom Goodman-Hill from “Baby Reindeer” was recognized in the supporting actor category for limited series at the Emmys. He’ll be going head-to-head against some impressive newcomers: Jonathan Bailey from “Fellow Travelers,” Lamorne Morris from “Fargo,” Lewis Pullman from “Lessons in Chemistry,” and John Hawkes from “True Detective: Night Country.” What an exciting lineup of talent!

In the comedy series genre, the main actor is joined by two fresh faces who have made their mark in their debut ensemble casts. Matt Berry gained recognition for his character, Laszlo Cravensworth, on “What We Do In The Shadows,” while D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai was celebrated for his portrayal of Bear Smallhill in “Reservation Dogs.”

Eric André appeared at the Emmy Awards for the first time with his unconventional talk show, “The Eric André Show” receiving two nominations: one for outstanding performer in a short form comedy or drama, and another for outstanding short form comedy or drama series.
