The Emmy Nominations Are Out, And I’m Jazzed About X-Men ’97 And Other Animated Genre Shows Getting Some Love

As a huge animation fan and someone who grew up watching X-Men: The Animated Series, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see X-Men ’97 receiving the recognition it deserves from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. I remember fondly the hours I spent as a kid watching the original series, which helped fuel my love for the X-Men and superheroes in general. So, it’s heartwarming to learn that the beloved continuity is not only being revived but also receiving Emmy nominations, specifically for the groundbreaking episode “Remember It.” This show has a bright future ahead with Seasons 2 and 3 in production, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.

The Emmy nominations for the 76th television season have been revealed, sparking much conversation. Notably, “The Bear” from Hulu has been nominated in 23 categories, with some expressing concerns about a possible sweep. Additionally, Amazon Prime Video’s “Fallout” earned three nominations. In this discussion, I’d like to focus on the Outstanding Animated Program category. Here, “Bob’s Burgers” and “Family Guy” are once again nominated. Moreover, “X-Men ’97” and two other genre shows have received three Emmy nominations each. I’m thrilled that these shows are receiving recognition from the Television Academy.

X-Men ’97

Back in the late ’90s, when X-Men: The Animated Series came to an end after five thrilling seasons, it felt like we’d be stuck in a world without our favorite mutant superheroes from that continuity, which had played a significant role in introducing X-Men to the masses before the movies hit theaters. But little did we know that was just a temporary goodbye! In 2021, I was beyond excited to learn that X-Men ’97 would be bringing this classic continuity back to life as part of Marvel’s lineup on Disney+. After a wait of roughly two and a half years, X-Men ’97 finally premiered in March to rave reviews from critics and fans alike, and its popularity has only grown stronger ever since.

As a huge fan of X-Men ’97, I’m thrilled to share that the show was already looking bright before today. With Season 2 deeply engrossed in production and Season 3 in development, I couldn’t help but feel excited about what lies ahead for this extraordinary team. The anticipation is palpable as we eagerly wait to discover their adventures in 3000 B.C. and 3960 A.D., and find out where Wolverine, Storm, and Morph have ended up.

Blue Eye Samurai

I was thrilled when “Blue Eye Samurai” dropped on Netflix in November 2023. As a dedicated gamer and anime fan, I couldn’t wait to dive into this new series. The story follows the journey of Mizu, a captivatingly strong onna-musha or female warrior, who is half-white and half-Japanese. With a fiery determination to seek vengeance against the four white men, including her estranged father, Mizu sets out on an epic quest.

I couldn’t believe it when when I heard the buzz surrounding “Blue Eye Samurai” just a few months after it premiered. Critics and audiences alike were raving about this action-packed TV show that I simply had to see for myself. And now, the Emmy nominations have rolled in! The episode “The Tale of the Ronin and the Bride” has been recognized as an Emmy contender, making me even more excited to continue following the story. If you haven’t yet discovered this hidden gem, I highly recommend giving it a try before the second season premieres!

Scavengers Reign

In October 2023, Scavengers Reign first premiered on Max. Afterward, it was added to Netflix’s library. This sci-fi drama tells the story of people stranded on the planet Vesta after their cargo ship, the Demeter, crashes. At first, they split into three groups and face challenges from the abundant wildlife and hidden perils as they work towards reaching their crashed ship. Their goal is to reunite and find a way off this dangerous world.

Max ended the first season of “Scavengers Reign” unexpectedly, yet Netflix acquired the rights and made all episodes available on May 31. However, Netflix has remained silent about potential plans for a second season. The Emmy nomination for “The Signal” could potentially persuade Netflix executives to renew the series, especially if it wins the award.

At the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which take place from September 7-8, we’ll discover which animated program takes home the award for Outstanding Animation. Meanwhile, mark your calendars: The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on ABC on September 15, 2024.
