As a die-hard fan of The Boys, I can’t help but be completely blown away by the twists and turns in the Season 4 finale. Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t yet watched the final episode with an Amazon Prime subscription!
Caution: Significant revelations ahead for those who haven’t watched the final episode of “The Boys” Season 4 on Amazon Prime.
For several weeks, it has been anticipated that the fifth season of “The Boys” would feature a climactic showdown between Homelander and Butcher as its finale. The Season 4 ending, originally titled “Assassination Run,” was altered to reflect current real-world events, leaving all major characters in precarious positions and paving the way for the series’ continuation. In Homelander’s own words, “A new era of superheroes” is dawning; however, it remains unclear how this society under martial law will progress and how Ashley and Soldier Boy’s surprises will factor into the unfolding narrative.
Because whoa! Aside from the big deaths — Butcher killing Victoria Neuman, Ryan presumably killing Grace Mallory, the Seven murdering all questionable Vought employees — and their repercussions, two of the biggest shocks in the episode centers on Colby Minifie’s hyper-stressed Ashley and the return of Jensen Ackles’ highly controversial Supe that nearly everyone on the planet believed was dead after events in the Season 3 finale. Let’s discuss both!
Ashley Has Now Been Injected With Compound V
Since the start of Ashley’s tenure at Vought, there have been signs of weakness in her leadership role, with no specific issues causing controversy. However, the situation took a drastic turn in Season 4, as a new president emerged to replace Dakota Bob and Neuman, who were both imprisoned. With this power vacuum, Vought needed to address any internal issues, making Ashley a prime target due to her extensive knowledge of the corporation’s inner workings. In essence, she became public enemy number one.
In her frantic condition, Ashley might have wished she had gone with A-Train when he offered, but her only alternative was to try elevating herself to the Supes’ level by injecting Compound V into her system. However, instead of granting her a new power for self-protection, it seems that Ashley could end up in a worse state than before.
After receiving the injection of the formula, Ashley abruptly showed signs of distress. Her wig came off as she fell to the ground, writhing in agony. The state of her scalp was disastrous, and it wasn’t only her hair-pulling obsession that caused it (though that certainly didn’t improve things). However, it remained unclear what was transpiring within her or how it would conclude. Remarkably, Minifie’s character mysteriously vanished from the Season 4 finale in its latter half.
Nathan Mitchell from “The Boys” Discusses Black Noir’s Puppet and Addresses My Theory on its Gen V Link
Taking Compound V as an adult carries a significant risk, especially since its effectiveness increases with youth. Butcher’s current health problems are linked to his past use of the compound, bringing back memories of Hughie Sr.’s tragic end in the hospital after being given the shot by Daphne. Although Ashley survived her encounter with Compound V in Season 4 without any apparent major side effects, it remains uncertain how she will fare in Season 5.
Upon seeing her fall so dramatically, I couldn’t help but imagine a pair of unusual wings unfurling from her back. In this universe of “The Boys,” those wings might tear her apart with their immense size, or they could take on bizarre shapes like penises. The possibilities were endless, really.
Homelander Discovered Soldier Boy Has Been Kept Alive
As a devoted fan of “The Boys,” I’m thrilled that my theory about Soldier Boy making a comeback in the fifth season proved to be true, even if Maeve’s return was yet to be seen. However, it remains to be seen whether Homelander will keep Soldier Boy alive until we encounter these characters once more.
After the chaos in Washington D.C. and itsaftermath, the Speaker of the House stepped forward to assume the presidency. He swiftly declared his loyalty to Homelander and the Seven. Now, it’s lawful for the government and other entities to target Supers, with Tek Knight’s prisons prepared as detention centers for both powered individuals and their supporters (or Starlighters, as an alternative term).
As a fan, I can imagine myself saying: When I, as the new President, was going through the classified CIA files about Supes, I unexpectedly discovered Soldier Boy’s hidden gas-filled tank. To everyone outside, both Soldier Boy and Grace were believed to be deceased after their explosive encounter with Maeve. Therefore, finding out that Ackles, who leads Payback, is still alive came as a shock to me and the world. If Ryan hadn’t killed Grace yet, I’m sure Soldier Boy’s father would take matters into his own hands.
After finding out that Soldier Boy lived on, it’s only a question of when Homelander will piece together the clues and suspect that Maeve is probably still alive as well. However, since Homelander already wants Ashley dead, it won’t make a difference if he learns that she falsified documents to make it seem like she was deceased.
It’s entirely plausible (even probable) that fans will gain insights into the aftermath of the fifth season of “The Boys” in the second season of the spin-off, “Gen V,” which is currently being produced after a postponed start due to Chance Perdomo’s passing. Intriguingly, Cate and Sam from “Gen V” were involved in capturing Kimiko and Frenchie in the previous season. Consequently, I believe this series will provide valuable information about this new order when it resumes.
Up until then, we’ll need to adjust by pondering and being patient as we wait for the comeback of those series on Prime Video. Nevertheless, there are numerous shows scheduled to debut on Prime Video in 2024 that merit our anticipation and enthusiasm.
