AI Weiwei to Install Over 40 Monumental Artworks in Spain

As a seasoned gamer and art enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement for Ai Weiwei: Don Quixote, an upcoming exhibit at the MUSAC in León, Spain. Having followed Ai Weiwei’s career for years, I have grown to appreciate his unique blend of art and political activism.

On November 9, at the MUSAC in León, Spain, there will be a display of Ai Weiwei: Don Quixote, one of his most intricate and extensive projects. Covering an area of 1,700 square meters, this exhibition includes an impressive collection of 41 large-scale works that have been produced by him over the past two decades.

As a huge fan of Ai Weiwei, I’m thrilled to share that his upcoming exhibition will be special as it will extensively showcase his unique LEGO brick paintings for the first time. In his own words, he compares LEGO to ancient mosaics, textiles, and Song Dynasty printing due to their timeless appeal. One of the most striking pieces in this collection is “La Commedia Umana” – an impressive eight-meter-tall chandelier crafted from 2,000 black Murano glass pieces, symbolizing the cycle of life and death. This masterpiece took four long years to bring to life.

The exhibition explores the significant topics that Ai Weiwei consistently addresses, including the refugee crisis, global politics, and the influence of AI on humanity. Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya has carefully curated this unique presentation, which is exclusive to MUSAC, making it the only Spanish museum to showcase it.
