Jack Quaid Didn’t Know The Boys Was a Comic Book
Hughie has been a key figure in the show since its first episode. Throughout the past four seasons, his connections with Billy Butcher, Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Hughie’s father (portrayed by Simon Pegg), and even himself have been put to the test. In an interview, Quaid shared how he landed the part, explaining that Eric Kripke, the showrunner, invited him for a audition to play the role of Hughie.
I confessed during the interview that I was completely unfamiliar with “The Boys” comic books prior to receiving the script for this project. But once I read it, I was hooked and knew I had to be a part of it. Intrigued, I delved into the source material created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, immersing myself in their captivating world.
“Upon reading the script, I was thoroughly impressed, not knowing at first that it was adapted from a comic book. I assumed it was an original work about America with superheroes added in. However, upon further investigation, I discovered it was part of a larger series of comic books.”
Quaid spoke highly of “The Boys,” expressing that he’d go to great lengths to be a part of the show, even if it meant just being an extra. The fourth season finale was recently released, paving the way for the fifth and concluding season. In an earlier conversation, Eric Kripke mentioned that “The Boys” can only conclude with an epic confrontation between Billy Butcher and Homelander (Antony Starr).
