‘A Completely Different Journey’: Moana Star Auli’i Cravalho Teases Her Disney Princess’ Story In The Sequel

As a dedicated Disney fan and fervent supporter of Auli’i Cravalho, I can’t contain my excitement for her return to voice the beloved character Moana in “Moana 2.” Eight years have passed since we first met this remarkable Polynesian princess, and she’s back with a brand-new adventure that promises to be even more captivating than the original.

The allure of the sea has drawn Disney’s inaugural Polynesian princess, Moana, once more. In the autumn of 2024, animation enthusiasts will embark on a new journey with Moana and Maui in “Moana 2.” Though details about this anticipated Disney production are scarce, the voice behind the young explorer, Auli’i Cravalho, shares some insights into what lies ahead for fans.

In an interview with People, Cravalho shared her experience going back to record for Disney’s beloved princess character almost 8 years after she had bid farewell: “I spoke with People about my recent return to the recording studio and voicing one of Disney’s top princesses once more – it’s been over 7 years since I last signed off.”

As someone who has spent countless hours in recording booths, I can truly say that it is my happy place. The familiarity of the space and the character I have come to know so well bring me a sense of comfort and ease. However, with each new project, I find myself pushing beyond my own comfort zone and venturing into uncharted waters. It’s both exhilarating and terrifying, but ultimately, it’s this sense of growth and exploration that keeps me coming back for more. The journey may be different each time, but the thrill of bringing a new character to life is always worth the effort.

Three years have passed since my first adventure with the remarkable demigod, and I, Moana, have grown both physically and mentally. Now, I’m called upon by my ancestors, and I’ve assembled a new crew of brave seafarers to join me on this momentous voyage. The captivating trailer for the sequel reveals that I’m no longer the same girl you met back in 2016. My journey has transformed me, and it’s essential that the writers reflect this growth as we embark on this new adventure together.

As an avid supporter of Cravalho and her iconic roles, I can’t contain my enthusiasm as she prepares to lend her voice once more to a character she brought to life. This is a moment long overdue. Back in 2020, Disney announced that Moana, the Polynesian princess, would be graced with her own animated series on Disney+. But just recently, we received exciting news – it’s now set to become a movie instead!

In November, it will be a mix of joy and sadness for Cravalho as she enters cinemas, possibly marking her final involvement in the Moana franchise. Disney is proceeding with a live-action version, but Cravalho, at 23, won’t reprise the leading role. Instead, she has handed it over to Catherine Laga‘aia, a young actress deeply rooted in Polynesian culture and a fitting replacement for the part.

Just as her cherished character, Cravalho, is expanding her horizons and taking on new challenges, she graciously made way for the live-action version’s cast. However, given Disney’s affinity and track record for producing sequels, there’s a strong possibility that a third film may emerge down the line. To secure Cravalho’s continued voiceover role as the Princess, make sure to mark your calendars for November 27th and head to the movie theater.

At present, Disney+ subscribers have the ability to stream “Moana.” Don’t miss out on checking out Auli’i Cravalho’s other films, which can be found on various top-tier streaming platforms.
