As a dedicated gamer and longtime fan of The Simpsons, I cannot express enough my admiration for this iconic TV show that has entertained audiences worldwide for decades. The British fans, in particular, have shown an unwavering love for this American export, with notable figures like Daniel Radcliffe counting themselves among its biggest supporters.
As one of the greatest sitcoms ever, The Simpsons is one of an elite group of TV shows that’s recognized and beloved across the planet. One of the show’s biggest non-American fandoms is (perhaps unsurprisingly) in the U.K., where superfans like Daniel Radcliffe have been unofficial Springfield residents for decades. But while plenty would love to see star Hank Azaria voicing characters like Moe and Comic Book Guy in person, not everyone is allowed to show any kind of excitement. Such as London’s legendarily stoic King’s Guard.
It’s widely known that these diligent sentry guards have been facing various loud disturbances from the public for a longer time than “The Simpsons” has been popular. I find it astonishing that this specific guard didn’t even crack a smile or show any reaction during Hank Azaria’s brief performance. In an ideal world, Azaria would have been allowed to test each of his Simpsons characters on the guard, not that he hadn’t achieved enough there, but it was too brief, lasting only a minute. My brain craves the thrill of recognizing familiar cartoon voices coming from human faces, leaving me wanting more.
As a gamer, I can understand that Azaria won’t be voicing Apu or Duffman in this project, and he might not want to strain his voice further. It’s a bummer, but there are so many other amazing characters he can choose from instead. And let me tell you, I’m impressed with how professionally Azaria is handling this situation, especially when Moe Syzlak is making his grand introduction!
As a fan of The Simpsons, I must admit that keeping a serious expression during this performance is essential. It would be disappointing if the performer reacted unprofessionally even after receiving praise from Chief Wiggum. However, as an ardent follower of The Simpsons, I’m genuinely impressed by the situation.
As a gamer, I can imagine it this way: Perhaps this individual isn’t a big fan of The Simpsons or hasn’t encountered Hank Azaria’s iconic portrayal of Comic Book Guy. Consequently, his 50-second outburst might have seemed like the ramblings of an eccentric man, albeit an impressively talented one. However, I choose to believe that he kept a straight face throughout, biding his time until the guard exchange was complete. Then, with a triumphant flourish, he whipped off his hat and proudly declared to all who could hear: “Comic Book Guy called me ‘Best. Guard. Ever.’ right in my face!” Such recognition is a badge of honor unlike any other.
With a Disney+ subscription, fans have the opportunity to stream and view all of Hank Azaria’s characters from “The Simpsons.” This is an excellent alternative as they anticipate the release of Season 35 on fall television.
