Microsoft Users Report Widespread Outages Affecting Banks, Airlines And Broadcasters

As a dedicated gamer with years of experience in the digital world, I can’t help but feel a sense of unease and frustration upon hearing about the widespread Microsoft 365 outages that have affected various industries and individuals around the globe. The thought of losing access to essential services like email, productivity apps, and even banking systems for hours on end is not only inconvenient but can also lead to significant losses for businesses and individuals alike.

On Friday, Microsoft users from various sectors like banking and aviation reported extensive disruptions to their services, just a few hours following Microsoft’s announcement of addressing an ongoing problem impacting the availability of Microsoft 365 applications and features.

The reason behind the power failure, its specifics, and extent remained uncertain. Microsoft seemed to indicate through their X messages that progress was being made, but even as hours passed, more reports of ongoing outages continued to surface worldwide.

User-reported internet disruptions at an all-time high on DownDetector: Visa, ADT security, Amazon, American Airlines, and Delta. These companies experienced increasing numbers of outages as reported by their users.

Australian news sources shared that various industries such as airlines, telecommunication companies, financial institutions, and broadcasting corporations experienced interruptions due to the unavailability of their computer systems. New Zealand’s banking sector also reported going offline.

Microsoft 365 announced on X that they were making adjustments to redirect affected traffic to backup systems in order to improve service restoration more quickly. They reported a noticeable enhancement in the service’s accessibility.

The company declined to provide a comment regarding the issue, keeping silent on the reason behind the power failure.

I’ve noticed some reports of outages affecting various Australian businesses and services that I follow. Among them are the banks NAB, Commonwealth, and Bendigo, as well as airlines like Virgin Australia and Qantas, and telecommunications providers such as Telstra.

Australian news stations such as ABC and Sky News experienced interruptions in their television and radio transmissions, as well as unexpected shutdowns on their Windows computers.

A user of X shared an image of a warning message from the security firm Crowdstrike, stating that there had been reports about crashes on Windows computers concerning their Falcon Sensor platform. This notice was found on a secure area of Crowdstrike’s website and couldn’t be confirmed. Despite reaching out to Crowdstrike for clarification, they did not provide any response.
