As a huge fan of both Dan Stevens‘ acting abilities and the gripping horror anthology “The Terror,” I couldn’t be more thrilled about his upcoming role as Pepper in AMC’s third season, titled “The Terror: Devil in Silver.” This new installment promises to deliver a psychological rollercoaster set in a psychiatric hospital where Stevens’ character encounters a terrifying creature believed to be the devil itself.
Dan Stevens, known for his roles in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and “Legion,” will headline the upcoming season of AMC’s anthology series, “The Terror.” Named “The Terror: Devil in Silver,” this installment draws inspiration from Victor LaValle’s novel of the same name. In this story, Stevens portrays a man named Pepper, who is mistakenly confined to a mental institution. While there, he comes face-to-face with a horrifying creature believed to be the devil itself, which terrorizes the patients. Alongside other patients, Pepper must unite to confront this entity while also dealing with doubts about his own sanity and resistance from the skeptical hospital staff.
Below is Stevens’ own account of his involvement in the show “The Terror” and his enthusiasm about being part of the franchise (as reported by Deadline).
“I’m excited to join the cast of ‘The Terror: Devil in Silver.’ This show is a chilling blend of psychological horror and suspenseful drama, designed to leave viewers on the edge of their seats. Victor LaValle, Christopher Cantwell, and the talented team behind it have created a distinctively eerie and intricate tapestry of devils and darkness. I’m eager to contribute something memorable that will resonate powerfully, like a tolling bell in the depths of an iron hall.”
Stevens has gained recognition for his role as Matthew Crawley in the hit TV show “Downton Abbey,” which earned an Emmy Award. More recently, he appeared in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and “Abigail,” lending his voice to Parakeet in the English version of “The Boy and the Heron,” a 2023 Academy Award-winning Studio Ghibli production. Stevens is also known for portraying David Haller in FX’s “Legion” and the 2014 thriller “The Guest.” In addition, he voices Korvo Opposites on the animated series “Solar Opposites.” Aside from “The Terror: Devil in Silver,” Stevens has several upcoming projects lined up, including Tilman Singer’s “Cuckoo,” a film opposite Al Pacino titled “The Ritual,” and the animated series “Among Us,” inspired by the popular online game.
A New Monster Awaits as The Terror Returns to AMC
In 2018, the initial installment of “The Terror” series was released, followed by the second season in 2019. The show’s creators announced plans for a third season as recently as February this year. The first season of “The Terror” retells the tale of the ill-fated Franklin expedition from 1847, which sought the Northwest Passage. Stranded by ice and scarce provisions, the team encountered a terrifying creature from Inuit folklore known as the Tuunbaq, while battling hunger, distrust, and the prospect of revolt. The first season garnered rave reviews for its compelling mix of historical facts and horror elements, along with standout performances by actors such as Jared Harris, Ciarán Hinds, Tobias Menzies, and Paul Ready.
In the second installment, named “Infamy,” the storyline shifts to the West Coast during World War II. Here, a Japanese American community in California experiences growing unease following the Pearl Harbor attack. Instead of the usual supernatural threat, this season introduces the Bakemono, a malevolent creature from Japanese folklore, which terrorizes them as they’re relocated to internment camps against their will.
Stevens will additionally serve as an executive producer on “The Terror: The Devil in Silver,” collaborating with Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and their Scott Free Productions team. Furthermore, Chris Cantwell and Alexandra Milchan from Emjag Productions, Guymon Casady from Entertainment 360, Brooke Kennedy, and Karyn Kusama are all involved in the production. The duo of Cantwell and author LaValle will adapt the novel for the screen. Kusama, who has previously directed “Jennifer’s Body” and “The Invitation,” and currently executive produces “Yellowjackets,” will direct the first two episodes.
In the year 2025, “The Terror: Devil in Silver,” a new six-episode series from AMC and AMC+, is scheduled to be released, marking a six-year gap since the previous show, “Infamy.”
