As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of both films and television shows, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement when I had the opportunity to speak with the versatile and talented actor Brett Gelman. Known for his memorable roles in Stranger Things on Netflix and the new Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake, Gelman has been keeping us entertained with his captivating performances.

I had the pleasure of chatting with the hilarious and accomplished actor, Brett Gelman, during the premiere of “Lady in the Lake,” a thrilling new series on Apple TV+ set in Baltimore and featuring Natalie Portman. Excitingly, Gelman has also been involved in another highly-anticipated project: “Stranger Things” on Netflix, where he’s been a recurring cast member for several seasons now. With the upcoming fifth and final season eagerly awaited by fans, it’s an exciting time for both the show and Gelman’s career!

“Gelman shared with MovieWeb that filming is ongoing and it’s been an amazing experience, filled with excitement, enjoyment, and difficulty in a positive way. The upcoming season is promised to be exhilarating, and fans of the show should be pleased. Everyone involved is performing at their best, but I can’t reveal much more or risk consequences.”

Among the seasons Gelman has starred in so far, his role was particularly noticeable in the most recent one. He enthusiastically spoke about its merits to us, although there have been debates over the years regarding the extended duration of certain episodes in that series.

The experience of filming those episodes felt like being in several movies coming to life. With CGI elements and mental visualization, we put in the effort, yet only caught glimpses of the final product. Seeing the complete masterpiece upon release left me astounded as a devoted fan of the series, its genre, and the Duffers’ work. The last couple of episodes, each lasting an hour and a half, seemed perfect to me. Shortening it might have affected the narrative flow, character development, and action sequences.

Gelman Discussed His Emotionally Intense Performance in Lady in the Lake

Before the release of season 5 of “Stranger Things,” Gelman appears in a more solemn part in “Lady in the Lake.” He portrays Natalie Portman’s strict husband in a Jewish neighborhood during a pivotal moment in Baltimore’s history.

Gelman expressed great excitement about the work they did together. I don’t make this claim lightly, but it was truly thrilling. Her abilities surpassed my expectations not only in her artistic talent, but also in her professionalism and adaptability. She created a positive atmosphere on set, raising the bar for all of us, both in front of and behind the camera. Her graciousness, down-to-earth demeanor, and grounded personality made her an inspiration. If she taught movie-star classes, everyone would benefit from learning how to carry themselves with such grace and be an inspired artist.

Gelman continued discussing performing some of the show’s most emotionally intense moments:

The director of our series, also its originator, established an unscripted, heartfelt yet secure atmosphere on set. Consequently, instead of a polished, restrained Mad Men-like setting, we found ourselves in the midst of a Cassavetes production. This environment brimmed with raw, visceral intensity and unpredictability, making every moment feel authentic and real. The characters’ actions and motivations were complex and open to interpretation – a reflection of genuine human experiences.

Lady in the Lake is now streaming on Apple TV+.
