As a dedicated follower of Vicky Kaushal’s career, I am constantly in awe of his journey from being an assistant director on “Gangs of Wasseypur” to becoming a leading actor in Bollywood. His recent success with the film “Bad Newz” is well-deserved, and it brings back memories of his harrowing experience while working on “Gangs of Wasseypur.”

Vicky Kaushal is currently enjoying the limelight following the release of “Bad Newz,” where he acted alongside Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. His talent as an actor and humble personality have made him a familiar face in every household. Vicky began his career as an assistant director for Anurag Kashyap’s hit movie “Gangs of Wasseypur.”

Vicky Kaushal shares nerve-wrecking story of almost getting beaten up by sand mafia during Gangs of Wasseypur

During an interview with Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, Vicky Kaushal shared a story about how he came close to being attacked by the sand mafia while filming for “Gangs of Wasseypur.”

I’ve seen the film where the coal smuggling scenes were depicted, and I can assure you that those events were genuinely captured. However, during our attempt to document illegal sand mining, an unexpected incident occurred.

Vicky was surprised and couldn’t believe it when she discovered that this was an open smuggling operation, not just a couple of suspicious trucks but a large-scale business with as many as 500 trucks involved. She expressed her astonishment by saying, “I couldn’t believe my eyes; this wasn’t just smuggling, it looked like a legitimate business operation.”

An old man working as a camera attendant reported to the film crew that they were unexpectedly delayed due to being involved in a situation, and there were around 500 people surrounding Vicky and his team, making their filming secretly impossible.

Listening in on the phone conversation, the person at the scene assumed the cameraman was contacting a powerful figure. “The man seized the camera from the cameraman, took it away, and warned us ominously that they would destroy it. We were on the verge of being assaulted ourselves, but somehow managed to escape unharmed,” Kaushal remembered.

During its debut, the intricately crafted black comedy crime film with a dual narrative was praised extensively by critics.
