Once Human sits pretty at 230,000 peak player count, but it's still a long way out from mobile

  • Once Human has hit a 230,000 peak player-count on Steam
  • It also grabbed the seventh top seller position and number five on most-played
  • But it does indicate a potential falloff in players just out of the gate

As a long-time fan of open-world survival games, I was thrilled to hear that Once Human had reached a peak player count of 230,000 during its initial PC release. This number is impressive, and it’s not just because of the game’s stunning graphics or intriguing premise set in a post-apocalyptic world with supernatural phenomena.

In its debut on PC, the post-apocalyptic open-world survival game “Once Human” by NetEase reached a peak of 230,000 concurrent players. The mobile version, set to launch in September, has recently hinted at upcoming new features following this announcement.

Two major updates are coming soon: A Player versus Player (PvP) battle between the Mayflies and Rosetta factions, and a new Player versus Environment (PvE) area in an unexplored northern mountain region with novel adversaries. The highly anticipated game “Once Human,” developed by NetEase, is set in a world devastated by a catastrophic event, manifesting in borderline supernatural occurrences.

Despite appearing set to debut, NetEase unexpectedly delays the mobile rollout of Once Human, with a new release date in September. Notably, Once Human currently ranks seventh among sales and fifth in popularity since its introduction.

A mistake?

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the game developer, NetEase, mentions they have reached a peak of 230,000 players. This figure is intriguing because it implies that the average number of concurrent gamers might be less. Furthermore, if the player count drops significantly so soon after launch and falls short of the initial 300,000 Steam wishlists, it could be a concern for the game’s success.

The developer, known primarily for mobile games, is now aggressively expanding into the PC market. With Once Human showcasing impressive graphics and gameplay, it’s a big gamble for NetEase to aim for such a drastic shift in their target audience.

Despite this, the upcoming release of Once Human’s mobile game is bound to be thrilling whenever it arrives.
