As a long-time fan of the Planet of the Apes saga, I can’t contain my excitement as Wes Ball’s latest installment, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is finally making its way to Hulu on August 2. I’ve been eagerly waiting for this moment since its theatrical release back in May, and now that it’s joining its predecessors on the streaming platform, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and anticipation.
In keeping with Proximus Caesar’s word, an exciting day awaits fans of a renowned sci-fi saga. Indeed, Wes Ball’s acclaimed summer blockbuster, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” is now available for streaming on Hulu beginning August 2, 2024. This highly anticipated installment in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise marks the film’s debut on the popular streaming platform, following a three-month theatrical release that commenced on May 10, 2024. Remarkably, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is among the successful early releases in the summer movie season of 2024.
The film “Planet of the Apes: Kingdom” received similar feedback from critics and viewers. According to the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, it earned a score of 80%, while its audience gave it a rating of 77%. Additionally, moviegoers assigned it a “B” grade through CinemaScore. Despite some mediocre-to-good evaluations, this film managed to generate modest sales at the box office.
The new installation in the “Planet of the Apes” series opened strong in its first weekend with $58.4 million in domestic box office sales (as reported by Box Office Mojo). Eventually, it earned a total of $170.7 million within the US. Moreover, this film brought in an extra $225.7 million from international markets, leading to a global revenue of $396.4 million. Given its production budget of merely $160 million, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” proved profitable for 20th Century Studios.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Joins Fellow Entries on Hulu
Approximately three months after “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” took over box offices, director Wes Ball’s film for the franchise will be available to stream on Hulu, starting towards the end of next week. It will join the other movies in the series led by Andy Serkis – “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (2011), “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014) and “War for the Planet of the Apes” (2017).
For those new to the “Planet of the Apes” film series and looking to watch from the start, here is a list of the science fiction movies in the saga currently streaming on Hulu, arranged in order of release:
- Planet of the Apes (1968)
- Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
- Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)
- Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
- Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
- Planet of the Apes (2001) *Mark Wahlberg entry
- Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
- Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
- War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
- Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) *August 2
It’s clear that the “Planet of the Apes” series will continue to be successful and bring more movies to the big screen. Kevin Durand hopes that the death of his character, Proximus Caesar, won’t prevent the villain from the “Kingdom” from coming back in the future. Durand shared this sentiment during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Is Proximus an inhabitant of the sea, or did a large splash signify only his presence? Such a colossal and impressive being, it’s uncertain if it managed to emerge. I can’t say for sure… but there might be a possibility [that Proximus survived] in the world of Apes.”
