Call of Duty fans reminisce about the best and worst MW3 crossovers

As a dedicated fan of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3), I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I reflect on the game’s most memorable crossovers. While some may argue that the addition of pop culture icons and franchises has diluted the authentic war-based experience, I’ve come to appreciate the creativity and excitement these collaborations have brought to the game.

The exact timeline for Call of Duty transforming into a “Fortnite-like” game is uncertain, but critics of military simulation games have expressed frustration that their beloved war shooter has turned into a platform for popular culture collaborations.

Although adding Cheech and Chong and a marijuana-themed sloth may seem like a new low for a series that previously strived for historical accuracy, it’s clear that the developers are creative. With characters ranging from Rambo and the Terminator to Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj wielding weapons, their imagination knows no bounds.

Although Modern Warfare 3 isn’t quite finished yet, its time in the spotlight is nearly up. With Call of Duty releases coming annually, there’s only a short period when different games can coexist before the latest one starts overshadowing the previous one. So, Black Ops 6 will soon take center stage, leaving Modern Warfare 3 in the shadows.

There’s a sense of sadness among us as we may soon bid farewell to MW3, and although there’s speculation that a Season 6 will come after the upcoming Season 5, it’s all uncertain for now. In the meantime, Season 5 is gearing up for a WWE collaboration, while the anticipated reboot of The Crow in 2024 is also preparing to take flight.

Players are currently reflecting on the collaborations in MW3, as @DETONATED wonders which ones we preferred. An extensive range of collaborations has been mentioned, ranging from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two and The Walking Dead, to the NBA and numerous crossovers with The Boys.

One supporter expressed, “For me, it’s constantly shifting. At the moment, I’m leaning toward GxK due to the enticing bundles. Yet, they held three events with only average camos.” Another fan commented, “The Warhammer MODE was exceptional, and the boys were also commendable.”

As a huge fan of The Boys and Supe abilities, I have to admit that the recent content additions have been quite intriguing, even if some viewers had expressed concerns about an oversaturation of The Boys-related material. The Fallout collaboration didn’t quite hit the mark for me and many others, but the introduction of Task Force 141 outfits inspired by Vault Dwellers was a welcome surprise, albeit not the major overhaul some of us had hoped for.

Many players have expressed strong disapproval towards the collaboration between The Walking Dead and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by Sledgehammer Games. They feel that the developers have neglected the Zombies mode in MW3, and adding Operators inspired by Rick Grimes and Michonne from TWD didn’t make up for it. To some, this collaboration appeared as a mere money-grabbing attempt.

In a shift from the norm, Black Ops 6 by Treyarch seems to be veering off in a new direction. Instead of the Carry Forward system and continuing storylines with characters like Homelander from MW3, they’re opting for a simpler, more realistic approach. Fans hoping for a Resident Evil crossover are keeping their fingers crossed. Let’s see if Treyarch delivers!
