Glen Powell Offers Hugely Exciting Top Gun 3 Update as Studio Feels the Need for Speed

As a dedicated gamer and movie enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited by the latest updates surrounding the development of Top Gun 3. Glen Powell, the Hollywood newcomer who stole our hearts in Top Gun: Maverick, has recently revealed that he already has a date for the filming of the third installment in the franchise. This is quite a surprise, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer had previously suggested it would be “a while” before we see another Top Gun movie.

Glen Powell, the rising movie star from Hollywood, shared an encouraging snippet about the progress of Top Gun 3 during a chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Contrary to expectations that it would take some time before hitting theaters, Powell disclosed that he’s already got a scheduled date for the production.

He mentioned having a date, but refused to disclose any additional information when asked.

From my perspective as a gamer, the latest update from Powell is quite different from what Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned earlier about the possible third Top Gun movie. Back in the spring, Bruckheimer told Deadline that “it will be a while” before we see another installment. But it seems things are progressing faster than anticipated. Could this be due to Powell’s recent surge in popularity? Only the future can reveal the answer, but one thing is certain: Jake “Hangman” Seresin’s character is bound to have a more significant impact this time around.

At the interview, Powell spoke highly of Tom Cruise and shared his experience of watching “Twisters” together with him. Surprisingly, Cruise attended the premiere for this year’s “Twister” sequel’s legacy release, causing quite a stir as he watched Powell performing in the movie.

Let me tell you, it was absolutely surreal when Tom unexpectedly showed up at the premiere of “Twister.” You see, I had never had the opportunity to watch this classic movie with a live audience before. But getting to experience it alongside someone who holds such a significant place in my life and from whom I’ve learned so much about making big-budget films that resonate with audiences worldwide was truly extraordinary.

Powell subsequently verified that Cruise was genuinely thrilled by Twisters, as the exhilarating storm chasing scenes in the movie left Cruise, the renowned Mission: Impossible actor and master of death-defying stunts, utterly exhilarated. This held significant meaning for Powell.

As a fan, I can’t express enough how amazing it was for me to have this guy sitting next to me, fully immersed in the movie. Not only was he enjoying it, but his excitement was palpable – he was practically jumping out of his seat!

In May 2022, the long-awaited continuation of “Top Gun,” titled “Top Gun: Maverick,” hit theaters. This new installment, which comes over thirty years after the original directed by Tony Scott, sees Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) back in action. Maverick is now responsible for mentoring a fresh batch of Top Gun graduates, among them Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late friend Goose.

As a movie enthusiast who has followed Tom Cruise’s career since his early days as Maverick in Top Gun, I can confidently say that the recent release of Top Gun: Maverick was an absolute triumph. The box office numbers, with over $1 billion earned worldwide, are simply staggering and make it not only a commercial success but also Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie to date.
