Netflix’s Reed Hastings Backs Kamala Harris With $7M Donation

As a long-time gamer and follower of politics, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns in both worlds. But the recent developments in the Democratic primary have been particularly exciting, especially for someone like me who’s been keeping a close eye on the tech industry and its leaders.

Reed Hastings has announced a significant contribution of $7 million towards Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign for the 2024 elections.

As a passionate gamer, I’m always excited about leveling up my favorite causes. And on Tuesday, I made a game-changing move – the biggest donation I’ve ever made to a single candidate! I shared this exhilarating news with The Information team. After the disheartening debate we all witnessed, it feels great to jump back into the action and make a difference.

More recently, following Joe Biden’s subpar showing at their first presidential debate, Hastings expressed his disappointment with the incumbent candidate. In an interview with the New York Times, he advocated for Biden to withdraw from the race and let a strong Democratic contender take on Trump instead. The country’s safety and prosperity, according to Hastings, depended on it.

At that point, Hastings voiced his concerns among other significant Democratic contributors, notably from the entertainment industry, urging Biden to consider resignation. According to the New York Times, Hastings and his spouse, Patty Quillin, have given over $20 million to the Democratic Party in recent years.

On Tuesday, Hastings tweeted, “Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win.”

According to The Information, Reid Hoffman, a wealthy Democratic donor and venture capitalist, suggested that Hastings make a contribution to a political action committee linked to Harris, which he subsequently did.

After Biden unexpectedly announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, significant Democratic figures, financiers, and backers have rallied behind Harris, who claimed a substantial number of delegates on Monday, making her the undisputed Democratic nominee.

Within a short timespan of only a few days following an outpouring of excitement, the Washington Post announced that Harris had amassed over $250 million for her campaign in less than 48 hours. Previously this week, The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that Biden’s decision to step down had ignited a wave of enthusiasm among Hollywood donors, who were eagerly preparing to contribute vast sums to Harris.
