Chloe Sevigny’s ‘Bonjour Tristesse,’ Kaniehtiio Horn’s ‘Seeds’ Join Toronto Film Fest Lineup

As a seasoned gamer and film enthusiast, I’ve spent countless hours immersing myself in various worlds created by talented artists. But nothing compares to the thrill of discovering new voices in cinema, especially those making their debuts at prestigious film festivals like Toronto’s Discovery program.

Chloe Sevigny’s film adaptation of Françoise Sagan’s renowned novel “Bonjour Tristesse,” directed by Durga Chew-Bose, will make its world debut and open the 2024 Toronto Film Festival Discovery program, according to organizers’ announcement on Wednesday.

Claes Bang, Lily McInerny, and French actress Nailia Harzoune join the cast of the contemporary English-film adaptation directed by the Canadian writer-turned-filmmaker. TIFF’s Discovery program, dedicated to debuting films from new and emerging international directors, is introducing “Reservation Dogs” and “Letterkenny” stars Kaniehtiio Horn and her directorial debut, as well as the comedy “Seeds,” at their world premieres.

In addition, the world premieres include “Freedom Way” by Afolabi Olalekan, “My Fathers’ Daughter” by Egil Pedersen, “On Falling” by Laura Carreira, and “Mother, Mother” by K’Naan Warsame, which is a co-production with Alex Kurtzman. These works have not been presented publicly before.

Toronto’s Discovery sidebar has showcased debut films of notable directors over the years. For instance, it introduced Alfonso Cuarón’s first feature “Sólo Con Tu Pareja,” which later became an Oscar winner. Similarly, Christopher Nolan presented his debut work “Following” at this event. Yorgos Lanthimos’ initial film “Kinetta” was also screened here. Lastly, Barry Jenkins made his directorial debut with the 2008 romantic drama “Medicine for Melancholy,” which was part of this esteemed sidebar.

The 2024 Discovery program consists of 24 titles from 25 countries.

As a long-time film enthusiast and Toronto resident, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) lineup. Having grown up in this vibrant city, I’ve had the privilege of attending TIFF numerous times and witnessing the magic that unfolds on the big screen.

The 2024 Toronto Film Festival is set to run from Sept. 5-15.
