As a die-hard DC fan with years of comic book knowledge under my belt, I am beyond thrilled about the current state of the superhero genre and the upcoming changes in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The recent ending of the DCEU and the beginning of James Gunn’s new DC Universe have left fans like me eagerly anticipating the upcoming DC movies, starting with his much-talked-about “Superman” film.
The world of superhero films is undergoing significant transitions, marked by the conclusion of the DCEU (available to stream with a Max subscription) and the emergence of co-CEO James Gunn’s new DC Universe. Excitement among fans is palpable as they eagerly anticipate upcoming DC movies, beginning with Gunn’s take on Superman. British actor Nicholas Hoult is set to headline the cast for this production, having recently wrapped up filming and presented a thoughtful gift to Gunn in appreciation.
I’m thrilled as a fan to share that while our knowledge about Superman may be limited, we can’t contain our excitement for the upcoming movie and the beginning of the DCU, or “Gods and Monsters.” Holt is an excellent selection to bring Lex Luthor to life on the big screen, despite his earlier attempts at landing the Superman role. The X-Men veteran has recently completed filming as the antagonist, and James Gunn, the director, recently posted a fun Instagram update about a thoughtful present he received from him.

I can’t help but find it adorable when Hoult hands Gunn an apparently immaculate old Superman comic book! It’s a safe bet that the director of Guardians of the Galaxy has quite a collection himself, making this a valuable addition. Of course, some fans, including myself, are eagerly scouring every detail for hints about the upcoming Superman film.
James Gunn’s caption makes it clear that production on Superman is ongoing, with Nicholas Hoult having finished his part. In May, Gunn shared that the filming was already halfway completed, indicating good progress. The extent of Lex Luthor’s involvement in this enigmatic project remains to be seen.
The comic handed to Gunn with its detailed issue is bound to spark fan speculations, as people are eagerly anticipating news about the events unfolding during Superman’s ambiguous filming duration. Brainiac plays a significant role in this story, and fans believe his presence will impact the movie’s plot. Apart from this, people are eager to find out why there are so many other superheroes featured alongside Superman, and how their presence will shape the narrative and impact David Corenswet’s character. Among these heroes are Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
As a gamer putting on my producer hat for the DC Universe’s next big project featuring Superman, I can’t deny the weight of expectation on our team. Our previous DC movies didn’t quite hit the mark, and the fact that the old shared universe was already struggling before their release only adds to the pressure. It’s crucial we deliver a game-changing experience that reinvigorates audiences and breathes new life into the DCU.
