Comic-Con Surprise: Marvel Screens ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ for Fans

As a long-time fan of Marvel movies and especially of Wolverine and Deadpool, getting the opportunity to attend the surprise screening of “Deadpool & Wolverine” at San Diego Comic-Con was an unforgettable experience for me. I’ve been camping out in Hall H since yesterday, hoping to secure a seat for this historic panel. And finally, my hard work paid off when I was one of the lucky winners of the lottery system for tickets.

At Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Shawn Levy (the director), and Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios presented an unexpected twist: instead of a routine discussion about “Deadpool & Wolverine” during their panel, they treated the audience to a sneak peek of the upcoming film through a secret screening.

“Jackman expressed that our global journey with this film has been remarkable, but the best part is yet to come, which is happening here and now,” stated Jackman, accompanied onstage by his co-actor Emma Corrin, portraying the movie’s antagonist.

During regular events, enthusiasts camp out to secure a spot in Hall H, a vast space where major panels take place. However, the panel featuring Deadpool and Wolverine wasn’t your typical event. In an unexpected turn of events, everyone was asked to leave Hall H prior, giving way for a lottery system to distribute tickets instead. The fortunate winners weren’t just rewarded with a glimpse of the movie but also received a humorous popcorn bucket that turned out to be a coveted item. Deadpool’s creator, Rob Liefeld, even signed these unique souvenirs for fans.

At Comic-Con SDCC, approximately 6500 avid fans in Hall H have been given the exclusive Wolverine popcorn bucket before the Marvel Deadpool and Wolverine panel. Robert Liefeld, the creator, is currently in high demand as people ask him to sign these collectible buckets.

The movie “Deadpool” featuring Deadpool and Wolverine opens nationwide tonight. Predictions estimate that it will secure the largest R-rated opening weekend revenue ever recorded, potentially earning between $160 and $175 million in North America.

At Comic-Con, this film holds historical significance for the audience. In 2015, Reynolds introduced the initial footage for Deadpool in Hall H, and the crowd’s excited response of “one more time” made him proudly show the trailer once again. Following that, Jackman humorously shared his story from behind the scenes. He boasted about persuading people to screen it backstage.

Jackman surprisingly appeared in this Disney-released film alongside his former X-Men co-star, despite his earlier announcement of retiring the Wolverine character after the 2017 release “Logan” with 20th Century Fox. Yet, against all expectations, Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 led Jackman to come out of retirement for an R-rated project.

During the start of the selection process, Reynolds, Jackman, and Levy shouted the film’s rallying cry in unison as they exited the stage: “Let’s get this show on the road!”
