As a longtime fan of both Marvel and DC comics, I have to admit that watching the ongoing rivalry between the two universes unfold on the big screen has been nothing short of exhilarating. And with the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the MCU has once again raised the stakes, leaving fans like me in a state of pure excitement and anticipation.
Warning! The Second Half of This Story Contains MAJOR SPOILERS from Deadpool & Wolverine.
The long-awaited collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine has arrived, adding more strength to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in its battle against the DC Universe. However, it seems some cinema-goers are still confused about who Ant-Man is versus Blue Beetle. On a related note, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, recently dismissed the continuous cinematic competition between DC Comics and Marvel Comics. In an interview with Cinemablend, when asked if it’s beneficial for DC to be as competitive as Marvel, he responded:
“Absolutely, I’ve consistently answered affirmatively for two reasons. Firstly, I enjoy watching excellent films myself. secondly, I believe it’s essential to have top-notch cinema options available for audiences to experience. Moreover, going to the movies is a unique and emotionally engaging pastime. Consequently, an abundance of great films benefits us all.”
Feige continued by saying in the same sit-down:
I’ve been following the box office numbers closely lately, and I must admit, I’m thrilled to hear that “Twisters” is exceeding expectations this weekend. Although I haven’t had the chance to see it yet, just knowing that it’s performing so well makes me even more eager to check it out. It’s always exciting when a movie you’ve been looking forward to turns out to be a success.
Deadpool & Wolverine’s ‘Super’ Cameo
As a passionate fan, I can’t contain my excitement when it comes to recognizing those delightful cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest addition! Contrary to popular belief, I’m not referring to the iconic candy bar with the same name. Instead, following Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) words from “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it’s high time for us fans to put on our special socks and immerse ourselves in these wonderful surprises.
It was quite a surprise for fans to witness Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Channing Tatum’s Gambit, and Wesley Snipes’ Blade joining forces against Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin, in the Void. This team-up was truly astonishing. Among these appearances, Deadpool’s unexpected encounter with Henry Cavill stood out. While searching for Wolverine to aid him in his travels across universes, the unconventional hero stumbled upon none other than Superman himself.
Cavill played the role of Superman/Clark Kent in several now cancelled DCEU productions, such as “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” depicting both the favorable and unfavorable versions of “Justice League,” and made a brief appearance in the post-credits scene for “Black Adam,” led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
When Wade encounters Cavillrine, who is puffing on a cigar and mentioned in the credits, the fondness-for-chimichangas Mutant shares with Cavillrine his belief that Marvel will greatly improve upon how DC treated the Wolverine character. Yet, Wade swiftly departs once Cavillrine makes a menacing move towards him.
Shawn Levy, the director, subtly acknowledges the DC/Marvel competition by making a small reference to it. This jab can be seen as a nod towards Henry Cavill’s controversial replacement as Superman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. However, this moment didn’t call for “Like a Prayer” by Madonna to play in the background.
