As a huge fan of “Tracker,” I couldn’t contain my excitement when CBS announced that the show would be returning for a second season earlier than expected! Justin Hartley’s grueling schedule paid off, and we’ll get to see what comes next in Colter’s story two weeks earlier than initially scheduled. The thought of waiting through the last weekend of October for the new season was already tough enough, but this news is a true gift for those of us who have been eagerly anticipating the payoff of Colter’s bombshell family revelations.
The popular CBS show “Tracker,” featuring Justin Hartley, gained immense success upon its release earlier in the year, resulting in an early renewal for a second season. Initially planned to air the first episode of Season 2 during the last weekend of October 2024, fans have had to wait patiently for the resolution of Colter’s shocking family secret reveal. Now, CBS brings welcome news to eager viewers, but a recent announcement from another platform leaves uncertainty about Jensen Ackles reprising his role as Russell.
Let’s start with the good news!
Tracker’s Updated Season 2 Premiere Date
As a long-time CBS viewer and avid fan of both “Tracker” and “The Equalizer,” I’m excited to share some recent schedule updates that have left me both surprised and intrigued.
The popular prime-time drama will shift to the 8:30 p.m. ET hour starting October 20. Keep in mind, CBS’ Sunday night NFL broadcasts lead to this scheduling change. So, it may seem unusual, but “Tracker” returning two weeks earlier than planned is a delightful surprise for fans!
What About Jensen Ackles As Russell Shaw?
Over the past few episodes in the first season, Tracker unearthed secrets about the Shaw family. This investigation began with Melissa Roxburgh’s introduction as Colter’s sister Dory, and continued with Jensen Ackles joining the cast as Colter’s brother Russell. Fans of Supernatural enjoyed several nods to that long-running series during Ackles’ episode. Justin Hartley proudly claimed responsibility for bringing his former CW colleague onto the CBS show.
The stories of the Shaw siblings ended ambiguously at the close of Season 1. Colter discovered Dory had deceived him, while Russell’s sudden departure left room for speculation about Jensen Ackles’ potential return in Season 2. However, this was prior to the announcement that Ackles would be headlining “Vought Rising,” a prequel to “The Boys,” exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
If you enjoy “The Boys” and find it entertaining, I can assure you that the show seems promising. However, I suspect that commitments to “The Boys” might conflict with Ackles’ role as Russell in “Tracker.” Although specifics about the production timeline, number of episodes, and whether “Vought Rising” will be a standalone project have not been announced yet, it is known that Ackles has already committed to another Prime Video series.
In summary, there are more queries than solutions regarding how the upcoming prequel to “The Boys” may influence Jensen Ackles’ future guest appearances alongside Justin Hartley. However, we should be thrilled that “Tracker” will return sooner than anticipated. During this summer break, remember you can enjoy watching the entire first season by subscribing to Paramount+.
